Wait: Tramadol is an opioid?
It never did anything for me. I thought it was akin to Advil.
I got it for a torn rotator cuff. It hurt real bad for a long time.
Under a vet’s supervision, this wouldn’t seem too big a deal. It’s just ‘breaking’ now when it happened in March.
I could never be a sled dog. Neurologist has me on that crap for 7 years now. I think Id be better off with medical Mary Jane except the Feds wont let me buy (or keep my)Guns if Im a registered pot user.
I am kind of amazed. I thought this was 100% clean sport in the frozen outdoors. If they found one case there are others. Opiods relive pain and will ordinarily slow down the dog.....But since the dog is tied to others he has to keep up with the team. A nasty strategy that can kill the dog I would think.
Tramadol has fast become one of the vets #1 pain relievers for doggs.
It works great but none of those human opioid side effects.
Tramadol is not very effective except intravenously
And it has limited euphoria properties
It’s effective though for moderate pain but not say major burn or bone cancer in the hip
This is an hysteria piece btw
Opioids!....were all gonna die
A. Tramadol is not an opioid.
B. Tramadol is frequently prescribed for dogs in pain.
C. The Iditarod is a grueling event that leaves every dog that runs it in pain.
D. It is therefore logical that dogs would be prescribed Tramadol AFTER a race.
Let me correct A. It is an opioid in that it acts on pain receptors that opiates do. However, it is not a narcotic, not is it an opiate. It is given in place of better known opioids because of the very low possibility of addiction.
Tramadol is a very mild veterinary pain medication, “opined” or not. What, do these people worry about dog opiod addiction or something? Do they not think sled dogs get injured? This is beyond stupid, in my opinion.
Hi.
I didn’t know that Tramadol was an opioid. It’s not from the poppy, nor a synthetic.
