Toddler’s kidney transplant stalled due to dad’s latest arrest
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 10/13/17 | Lauren Foreman

The organ transplant of a 2-year-old boy who was born without a kidney will likely be stalled for months.

The reason? His father’s latest arrest.

In a letter The AJC obtained from Burgess, a hospital official said the surgery would be pushed back until Dickerson could provide evidence he has complied with his parole officer for three months.

"If Mr. Dickerson could be escorted to Emory for blood work and a pre-operative appointment tomorrow, September 29, we will be able to continue with the scheduled surgery," an Emory official said in the letter dated Sept. 28.

Nothing in the piece suggests drug use.The quote above clearly suggests a bureaucratic SNAFU perhaps involving the state's Corrections officials. It does *not* even hint at drug use.Ask your nurse wife or your lawyer relatives for confirmation on that point.

Yes,it's conceivable that drugs are the real issue. But if that's the case several portions of this newspaper article...including the one included above...are very deceptive,or stupid,or incomplete.

You avoid my question. Why?

You're a parole officer. The only credibility *you* have in this matter is how parolees are handled...laws regulating the behavior of parolees. If a parole office SNAFU is involved you could possibly shed light on it.

Have your nurse wife or your lawyer relatives sign up and comment. The hospital lawyers might have worthwhile input in this matter regarding cases where drug use complicates a scheduled operation. And depending on your wife's training/experience she might as well.

But you,a parole officer, know *nothing* about medicine.I know a fair amount about issues of this sort and I say that the article,as written,is far too vague to reach any firm conclusions regarding any *medical* issue that might be involved.

Consult your nurse wife and your lawyer relatives for confirmation on *that*.

“Hey, the DA’s office and “court personnel” have nothing to do with parole.”

You didn’t even bother to read the article. Ah, well, it looks like others here have also tried to enlighten you.

On the other hand, your reaction here is a helpful illustration of bureaucratic screwups and stubbornness I was trying to explain to you before.
Bureaucracy does something wrong - when it’s pointed out, they deny it and double down, being stuck on stupid. If/when they finally realize they were wrong, they don’t want to admit it. There is also the issue of legal liability as a result of the bureaucratic clusterschmuck. At least you don’t have to worry about that last part.

But good luck with your unique version of the reality of this, anyway.

You seem to take personal offense to a stranger stating that a violated parolee may be using drugs (which is statistically reasonable/likely) and that this could be of serious concern to the surgical team and that this could be the root issue.

And, if he was not on drugs, I stand by my statement that it is easy to get him out for the procedure and that there is no story.

I will enjoy continuing my speculation about the problem and the father. I know it bugs you terribly. Sorry, man.

But if I need to know something about medical billing, HIPPA, or the ADA, I will be sure to look seek your guidance.

By the way, even if you were privy to some secret info re:your heroin fantasy, it macht nichts:

I donated on July 27th. I was fine in about 2 weeks.

I am surprised that the father who appears to have a drug habit made it this far in the donation process. I got the idea that would be an instant disqualification, along with drinking, obesity, diabetes, promiscuity and even being homosexual.

Assuming the hospital is the choke point - may be the parole system. The have a dead beat POS that breaks parole and is now incarcerated - at cost to taxpayers - and who has to foot the bill for his medical "upkeep" if they allow him to donate while incarcerated?

Too little info to really know what the real deal is.

You seem to take personal offense to a stranger stating that a violated parolee may be using drugs (which is statistically reasonable/likely)...

Aha! Finally a resolution to the impasse. In an earlier post you stated "He obviously used drugs".In another post you state that one needn't be a genius to figure that out.The quotes that we,the readers, know were issued by the hospital seemed to me to suggest a different explanation was possible,if not even more likely.

But now you state that drug use is a "statistically reasonable/likely" explanation for the postponement/cancellation of this kid's surgery. As I've already stated in this thread (but perhaps not to you...I'm too lazy to check) drug use certainly would cause serious concern for the medical/surgical team, concern so great as to result in postponement.

You know parolees well.I know them from watching the Crime Channel and reading the papers.Even my limited knowledge of parolees tells me that some,if not many, use drugs from time to time,if not regularly despite such use possibly landing them back in the slammer.

To sum up,this piece is so incomplete and vague (perhaps thanks to HIPPA laws) as to make it impossible for a reader to determine exactly what has,and hasn't,happened here.My experience in hospital administration is largely upon which I base that claim.

Is drug use the central issue in this case? That seems possible. Is there another explanation? That too seems very possible.

Just sayin'...

I respect and agree with what you have written. Apologes if at any time I was rude.
