This is from 1979. I remember reading this book and "the walk West" and what Jenkins discovered in contrary to the propaganda he had swallowed, and think it is it fitting to post it today. Ignore the rest on people.com,
Book can be had as cheap as 4.24 at Amazon :

Either the heading of this piece is poorly written or someone needs to be introduced to the word “anew”.

I was a kid at the time but his walk was featured in a couple editions of Nat Geo. He ran into some amazing people along the way.

I read this 20-something years ago.
It was the original Red-Pilling.

Either the heading of this piece is poorly written or someone needs to be introduced to the word anew. No, the headline is not "anew" but Peter Jenkins Set Out to Walk Across America and Ended Up Finding Himself a New Wife
I thought "wife" was not the main thing and that I was close to the limit of words which FR allows in a title, so I left it at "New"

I read both of the books on his walk when they came out and loved them both. Cooper’s death was worse than Bambi’s mother.

I was a kid at the time but his walk was featured in a couple editions of Nat Geo. He ran into some amazing people along the way. And NatGeo wanted to edit out his conversion story, but at a last meeting a head person asked him what his most profound experience was. Jenkins said it was his conversion, and the head guy responded, "Make sure that's included." All this is a paraphrase of what I read from Jenkins.

Ofr course its
not , and the description simply says,
By the time Jenkins reached the Mississippi he was no longer a vegetarian. A poor mountain man in Virginia, who offered Jenkins a lamb chop, had made him feel foolish about his no-meat diet.
I guess it should have said "A poor mountain man way back in Virginia," in case someone saw it as placing the two together, or "By the time Jenkins reached the Carolina's he was no longer a vegetarian," if in fact he had finally concluded he was done with it. But maybe we need not be so fault-finding.

I also read both books. They are great.

A poor mountain man in Virginia, who offered Jenkins a lamb chop, had made him feel foolish about his no-meat diet. I'd love to know exactly what this "mountain man" said to this guy so I could tell it to the vego-fags I know.

What's interesting is that radio talk show host Michael Medved did something almost the same with his hitchhiking trips across the county, as noted from a chapter of this book
Right Turns.
It was those trips that made him argue with another college student about the merits of the movie Easy Rider, saying that the premise of the movie is wrong. That other college student: a person by the name of Hillary Rodham.

Still think it should be anew? 8>)
