The Fall Creators Update for Windows 10 is almost here, but if you're not ready, in this guide, we'll tell you the steps to delay it.
Starting on October 17, Microsoft's update servers are expected to be busier than usual pushing the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) to millions of compatible devices already running Windows 10. I just spent the better part of week getting my computer, my printer/scanner and my sound system working again after putting off the last batch of Windows updates.
I’m just not ready for another batch of changes. It may well reverse a week of hard work on my part.

You are not the one in charge of your computer as long as it’s running on Windows 10.
I ditched Windows and am living happily with another Operating System. Same hardware.
I’ve been reading that some of the more recent windows 10 updates are not compatible with some computers. MS will endlessly try and fail to do the update.

The reason I ask is I've had my Win 8 machine offline for a little over three years and may soon get DSL and reconnect and want to be prepared for what might happen when Microsoft sees my machine again. Terabytes of updates? BSoD?
Typical anti-Windows BS. We will immediately update all our company and personal computers with confidence. Have never had problems with most versions and don’t expect any now.
I dual-boot with Mint, but don’t use it enough to feel comfortable not running windows 10. Hope I won’t have to.
I have experienced very few problems with security updates.
Feature additions / changes / updates... a more spotty record. Nobody's perfect, and features are more risky since they very often have a release schedule that forces them out before they're fully baked. Security updates seem to be better tested.

Hardly. The article is not anti-Windows at all; it's just providing information for folks who prefer to delay certain updates. And it's not BS -- I'm pretty sure what they say is factually accurate. If you believe otherwise, please cite and clarify. Thanks.
If you're running Win8 (as opposed to Win8.1), I encourage you to update at least to 8.1. There are a lot of improvements between 8 and 8.1.
If you're already running 8.1, you have support for quite a few more years. Yes, you'll be "encouraged" to upgrade to Win10, but you don't necessarily have to. Heck, I'm running Win7 on almost all my Windows boxes, and don't plan to take them to Win10 any time soon.

I think it updated to 8.1 before I went offline, but will confirm it next time I boot up.
I have some XP era apps that I still use and I read 10 is not friendly to older apps. I may just build a new machine and go to 10 and keep this older one at 8 so I can still use those older apps. Dislike 8’s user tile and hidden file menu interface, but the machine and OS have been very solid.

Try “Classic Shell”.
I have a Windows 7 laptop that I had not used or updated for over a year...I recently turned it on and got updates over several days IIRC. No problems...All worked fine. It took longer than usual of course.
I keep it for backup just in case. Put all my files and photos on a flash drive and updated those, too.
There were no annoying notices asking me to get Windows 10.
My newer laptop came with 10.
