What makes it harvest: Its the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox.
The reason the moon has been looking so big this week is that its rising around sunset. The bright moon comes up in a twilight sky, and at a time when more people are likely to take notice of it near the horizon....
... .
On average, the moon rises about 50 minutes later each night so if it rose at, say, 6 p.m. on Tuesday, it would rise at 6:50 on Wednesday. But around the equinox, because of the position of the moon in relation to the earth, the gap squeezes down to about 35 minutes.
The result is a few consecutive evenings of moons in their most noticeable mode: at or near the full phase, and rising around sunset.
In the skies above San Jose, the moon will rise Thursday at 7:09 p.m., 25 minutes after sunset.

Grrrr! I still got...Nothin’!
Nice!
Here you go.
Okay, who slapped a pepperoni pizza on the window and took a picture?
The song was written by the famous showman Meredith Willson. In 1958, he actually called our home to make sure my father--a music teacher and choir director--my mother and myself got complimentary tickets to the Los Angeles premiere of his show The Music Man. Seeing that show was an unforgettable experience for me.
I only experienced that a couple of times when I was out in N.W. Kansas pheasant hunting.........
The farm house we stayed in was definitely out in the country and the sky was like a billion candles........
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore.

It’s really something to see!
However, tonight is a total bust - it just started raining...four hours AFTER predicted.

SO post 24 and 25 appear to show Earth’s wobble in that the “face” of the moon is displayed at separate angles. Look at the round spot at the 2 O’clock position in post 24 and note that it is in the 12 - 1 O’clock position in post 25.
Thank you!
The BEST Super Moon Ive ever witnessed was in 1991. I was driving from Madistan up to Eau Claire, WI where I was setting up a Family Assistance Center during Operation Dessert Storm. I took the, scenic route along the Mississippi River.
It was October, end of the day. I had to pull the car over, get out, and just MARVEL at the magnitude of that Moon rising over the Mighty Mississippi; it was as HUGE as the picture you posted to me!
Ill NEVER forget it. Its, In The Vault. This was WELL before we all had phones or digital cameras to capture every meal weve ever eaten or anything cute our pets or kids have done. ;)
Hmmmm....I’ve read we can see the wobble by checking the moon once an hour and noting a change in position but since the photos in 24 and 25 were probably taken during different times of year, or different years, I’m not so sure. But maybe try it out on the Harvest Moon. Note the position of the “face”. A few months ago it was changing approx. 15 degrees on the hour.
This has to impact globull warming.
Anytime the moon rises over water it’s amazing!
It's not a wobble. The north pole of the moon faces northward and the south pole southward. When the moon is rising in the east north is horizontal to the left and south is horizontal to the right. By the middle of the night the moon is in the south part of the sky so north is up and south is down.
Here's the best drawing I was able to find:
That’s a more what?
Huge, and lighting up the lake, here in Central NH.
