Each year we tuck into 90 slices of cake, 135 biscuits and 135 packets of crisps
It's easy to indulge in a snack or two whilst you're at work, but according to a new study office workers are consuming a lot more than they might think.
According to a nation-wide poll of female office workers, on average women will consume more than 100,000 calories each year just by eating snacks at work. And the calorie mishaps amount to 2,240 calories every week.
Yearly, the amount of calories is the equivalent of 1,254 glasses of prosecco, 193 double-stacked burgers or 502 bars of chocolate.
The study shows females indulge in at least three snacks during a typical working day, totaling almost 500 calories - with 39 percent admitting to hiding away packets of biscuits and a further 45 percent having a personal stash of crisps.
Female office workers will tuck in to a total of 135 biscuits, 90 slices of cake, 90 packets of sweets and a whopping 45 doughnuts each year.
Crisps were named as the number one Achilles heel - with an average of 135 packets consumed every single year, according to the poll by Kallø.
However it's not all bad news as 47 percent of respondents tried to reach for fruit as much as possible - with the typical employee enjoying 180 pieces of fruit throughout the working year.
According to the survey, one in seven claim their overeating is the fault of a colleague bringing in snacks and home baked treats.
But perceived healthy snacks also add to the overall calories, with females consuming 45 packets of high fat nuts each year - and a further 45 bags of sugary dried fruits.
The most popular times to reach for a snack is 10.30am and 3.30pm and sugar-laden, milky coffees such as mochas and lattes, fizzy drinks and high calorie energy drinks were found to be common pick-me-ups.
Meanwhile, 48 percent complaining they are always too hungry to wait until lunch.
Being bored, tired or stressed were the main reasons workers rewarded themselves with treats, despite 83 percent starting the day with the intention of eating healthily.
Nearly a quarter of the 1,000 women polled feel bad about themselves after giving in to their snack temptation but a more laid back three in ten say life is too short to stress about the odd snack.
21 percent of UK ladies confessed they have absolutely no will power when it comes to abstaining from office treats, while three in ten said they end up snacking, just because the food is there.
Gill Green, Marketing Director at Kallø, who conducted the research, said: Women are consuming 1,000s of extra calories a week through the snacks they eat so were launching our Snack Swap campaign to show them that through some simple snack swaps they can drastically reduce the number of calories they consume without giving up the snacks altogether.
Life isnt about being free from; its about being free to. Instead, by making intelligent food choices, life is about what you can, not what you can't have. This is about loving food and eating the right way, without compromising on flavour, and by making health a foundational pillar - not dieting!"
Friday was found as the day we are most likely to give in to the lure of sugary treats, followed by Mondays.
Fixed it.
And that’s just by Wednesday.

Not me...
The other women make fun of my diet. They say I eat rabbit food. I eat 95% plant based diet, with an occasional fish here and there. No dairy at all.
They say I am boring, but at least I am lean and fit.

385 calories a day for a 260 day work year. So what?
Oh the Huge Manatee!
Statistics are for losers.
And I don’t eat “crisps” at work.
Rabbits live a good life. At least the ones who avoid coyotes.
The habit of bringing food, especially sweets, to the workplace to graze on is not a good one.
How are you able to pair whiskey with rabbit food?
The obvious answer is to have The State restrict caloric intake according to one’s needs.
But, but that is over 4 million over a career!
My company got rid of vending machine and replaced it with an few shelves of free healthy snacks.
So true! Always on the look out! ;)
