(JTA) Julia Louis-Dreyfus, an American television actress who gained fame on the hit series Seinfeld, was diagnosed as suffering from breast cancer.
Louis-Dreyfus, whose paternal grandfather was Jewish, broke the news Thursday on Twitter.
1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, Im the one, wrote Louis-Dreyfus, who portrayed Elaine Benes on the hugely popular sitcom. She currently stars in the HBO comedy Veep, for which she has won a record six consecutive Emmy Awards playing the role of Selina Meyer.
The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union, the 56-year-old actress continued. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so lets fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.
Her revelation prompted an outpouring of sympathy on social networks from many film and television stars, including breast cancer survivors Rita Wilson and Christina Applegate, the New York Post reported.
Your undaunted spirit has always been an inspiration to your family at HBO. Sending our love and support, the network posted on Twitter.
Louis-Dreyfus has been married to Brad Hall, like her a former cast member on Saturday Night Live, for 20 years. They have two sons, Charlie and Henry.
Not wishing her any ill, but I believe the stats about breast cancer are exaggerated. But it's politically incorrect to say so.
Many women who are "diagnosed" with breast cancer may not actually need aggressive treatment, but end up getting chemo and surgery anyway. Mammograms apparently result in a lot of false positives, and their follow-up biopsies may not differentiate sufficiently.
None of this is the fault of women who believe their doctors when told they need such drastic treatment. It's mostly the fault of an overly-aggressive breast cancer industry.
After witnessing their self destructive behavior for years, I was glad that someone on the air finally said that about them. They are the kinds of people who not only destroy themselves, but they want to take as many people with them as possible.
I wouldn’t put them past that to say something like that.
My mother and father in law are both breast cancer survivors.
Wow - and I just saw this from a thread resurrected today. It was the thread I was on before I came to this one.

So glad to hear about your survivors. I know their bravery.
Earlier this year I was diagnosed (early) with prostate cancer. I’m now well on the other side of surgery and am a survivor myself. After my diagnosis, my wife was sharing with a few folks in her office, and one of the shitlibs she works with actually made that asinine remark “if men could get breast cancer.....blah blah blah”. Pure ignorance. Cancer is no place for politics, as it distracts from the primary mission of survival.
Of course this was attacked by the media as false and unproven.
So just wondering if she has had an abortion.
Hopefully, she and McInsane can die together!
Not long ago I looked up cancer death stats for the US and found that either lung cancer or colon cancer (can't recall which) account for far more deaths in the US that does breast cancer.
Problem is...neither of them are "politically correct" because anyone...white,black,male,female can get them.
Breast cancer *does* kill. Therefore it should be of concern. But it gets more press than it deserves...just as AIDS did because it,*too*,was politically correct.
Why does this hateful little tribe keep whoring out its diseases on behalf of collectivism..?
same thing with Kimmel’s son.
There’s a real pattern forming up here.
I get sick..? I keep my mouth shut.
The poor dear is left to relie on her actor’s union heath care. I guess her Billions wee not enough to cover it.
I was wondering what her Jewish grandfather had to do with it, whether Jewish women are more prone to breast cancer or why they even mentioned that.
Been there....done that... you CAN get thru it with PRAYERS TO GOD and the TRINITY!!
Actually, Jewish women of European heritage have a higher than average risk of developing breast cancer.
My mother is German and Polish and has had it twice.
The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union... The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so lets fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.**** off.
