It's cases such as this that are so difficult. The mother wanted to save her child, but did it wrong by leaving the child in that car. It sounds like panic to the point of irrational thought. I wonder if she'd called the church group about the child being there. Did she not know that a child can be left at hospitals, police, or fire, and with many church groups?
It does seem we're missing part of the story and what led the mom to go about things as she did.

What kind of mother would assume that some kind stranger would come along before the baby died?
She couldn’t have even taken it and left it at a hospital or church entrance?
