Politics Tarnish Movies, TV, Pro Football and Now Me--

Posted on 09/25/2017 9:36:43 PM PDT by Bender2

Back in the 1930s and 1940s, film producer Samuel Goldwyn was renown for his quotes such as "If you want to send a message, call Western Union."

And that was pretty much how it was in films, the coming television industry and in sports. There was politics and there was entertainment. Sadly, it is that no more--

I am a Baby Boomer, a term seldom heard these days as we are all getting into our 70 years of age, a demographic advertisers ignore as if we are already dead and gone.

The Left started putting more and more of their political views into the news media, then into films. Then television. They got "Hate Speech" to suppress any speech they did like. That has has evolved into today's demanding that any view not in step with the Left not even be allowed. Now, my opinion is being suppressed not by the Left, but by those on Free Republic that say I an un-American and not Conservative because I will not go along with their view that my NFL LIVE THREAD is at fault and to be blamed, not Colin Kaepernick and his supporters. What was two different opinions has turned into a pack of worthless thugs the Left Wing would be proud of--

My politics has always been Conservative Republican yet nowadays I am curse by people and told my opinion is not worth of even being allowed on Free Republic.

What is that opinion that is so damned?

Well, I condemned Colin Kaepernick when he dissed the National Anthem last year. I condemned other NFL players who did the same. I agreed they had the right to their opinion but not to dis saluting Old Glory and the vets who fought for Free Speech.

I agree with President Trump that NFL owner have the right to fire players who disrespect the flag and National Anthem. It is a private business that can suspend players for bad actions and to my way of thinking, their kneeling is one very bad action.

Yet I continued positing my NFL Thread as I felt I had the right to-- That is why I am today cast here on FR as the greatest traitor to America since Benedict Arnold.

So, what to do?

I do not ask that anyone support those NFL players who kneel when the "Star Spangles Banner' is sung. I do not ask anyone watch the NFL games. I do not ask anyone to do anything they do not want to--

However, the following I will still post until I am told I cannot do so.

If “taking a knee” is culturally relevant...

Why aren’t there MILLIONS of Houstonians, Floridians and Puerto Ricans “taking a knee” and rejecting the help being given to them?

Pete, I have not replied to any of your post for the past three or four years and I am only doing so this time to say, "Since I have posted this thread for the past 10 plus years, I do not need some dumb schmuck telling me "For My Information" just what the hell it is!

Post you own 'alternative location for NFL dropouts' and never, ever again post anything to me--

Chicago got lucky ... not so much this week. Packers.
They can’t both lose, so I’m going with the Saints on this one.
Atlanta.
The Patsies have allow almost as many points as they’ve scored. Carolina will take advantage of this and hopefully not leave Brady time to make another one of his miracle last minute wins. Panthers with the upset that Houston couldn’t hang on to.
They can’t both lose, so I’m going with the Browns on this one.
Lions.
Jags.
COWBOYS!!!
Stillers.
Oilers.
They can’t both lose, so I’m going with the Bucs on this one.
Going out on a limb ... Bolts.
Cards.
Raiders lost to the Deadskins. Broncos.
Seahags.
Chiefs.

I still like pro football but absolutely dislike those running the sport in to the ground by politicizing it. I think there are still those out there that want to see pro football survive but not under the current leadership.

People that are upset with you need to direct their anger towards the NFL and not you. They are the ones that screwed this up by diving head first in to leftist politics. They are the ones who should be held accountable.

I did my part emailing them 3 times with my dissatisfaction towards where they are headed. I told them I will not buy any NFL merchandise until Roger Goodell apologizes and steps down and they QUIT politicizing the NFL.

I understand people around here are very upset with what the leadership of the NFL has done for the game, but Bender2 is a class guy and has always had very good football threads. I will still support those and direct my anger towards those who are really responsible and respectfully ask others to do the same.

Re: Trump's NFL comments served only to coddle the ugliest elements of his base

Just sent to customercare@dallasnews.com

And you wonder just why I stopped subscribing to your Left Wing rag years ago?

Do you even realize that the newspaper biz is dying due a lot to your outrageous political stance?

The sooner your newspaper that only caters to Liberal Democrats and their cohorts go under, the better it will be for the majority of Texas voters that agree with President Trump and vote with their dollars when it comes to points of view that trash the National Anthem of the United States of America.

I saw that...tempted but I am cancelling it at the end of the year when my contract is up anyways as it makes no sense paying for all the channels to get the few you want. Apple TV makes it too easy to just buy what you want.

I guess they have that right. But they aren't going to be using it.

Decades back a lot of athletes and other celebrities would have gotten fired for things they did. But it's not like that anymore.

Competition is so keen that owners and managers aren't going to fire somebody who does their job for other things that they say or do.

That said, I think there would be some real obstacles in the way if O.J. Simpson tries to make a comeback.

This bears (still suck!) repeating: DirecTV will REFUND for Sunday Ticket IF Players Protest is given as the reason for cancellation.

While my late Pappy's Horntoads rest this week... my Ultimate Frat Boy picks this week are:

My hometown boy Nic Shimonek's Texas Tech Red Raiders finally get some respect as they smack down #15 Okie State--

Iowa State's Cyclones blow away Them Godless Teasips--

My unbeaten Navy Midshipmen feed Bill the Goat's ego by taking the wind out of Tulsa's Golden Hurricanes--

And My Fightin' Texas Aggies... over South Carolina--

Well, I am not going to be watching this week. In the interests of unity doncha know?! But I can still make picks. BTW Bendy referring to your football movies theme.... Warren Beatty (who I've never really liked as an actor, always the same), was quite the high school player and passed on the opportunity to play in college to pursue acting. And despite the bath I took last week, now for picks!

Thursday, Sep 28, 2017

Chicago at Green Bay 8:25 pm CBS Lambeau Field Somehow the Bears beat the Kneelers (Yay!) last week. The Packers haven't exactly been playing like world-beaters, but they do have two wins. Thursday evening they'll make it three. Packers.

Sunday, Oct 1, 2017

New Orleans at Miami 9:30 am FOX Wembley Stadium Is this another London game? No matter. Saints got in the W column last week and I still believe in their offense. Saints.

Buffalo at Atlanta 1:00 pm CBS Mercedes-Benz Stadium Falcons at home in their new playground? Against the Bills.... who somehow beat the Broncos last week. Still, I believe the Falcons are the class of the NFC. Falcons.

Carolina at New England 1:00 pm FOX Gillette Stadium Patriots have been struggling even while winning. The Panthers have just been struggling and will do so again on Sunday. Patriots.

Cincinnati at Cleveland 1:00 pm CBS FirstEnergy Stadium Wow! Sunday's marquis match-up. The Bungles almost pulled it off Sunday against the Pack. They'll get it done this week. Bengals.

Detroit at Minnesota 1:00 pm FOX U.S. Bank Stadium In another of last week's upsets, the Bradford-less Vikes beat the Bucs. But Detroit is playing very well, Stafford like a man rejuvenated. Lions.

Jacksonville at N.Y. Jets 1:00 pm CBS MetLife Stadium Did the Jets actually win last week?! Yes they did. But the Jags are 2 - 1 (when was the last time that was true?). Make it 3 - 1. Jaguars.

L.A. Rams at Dallas 1:00 pm FOX AT&T Stadium My Gawd, the Rams are 2 - 1 also. The 'Boys rebounded from the Denver Debacle to beat the Cardinals. The rebound continues. Cowboys.

Pittsburgh at Baltimore 1:00 pm CBS M&T Bank Stadium After last week's sh*t, I really don't care who wins this game (I have two tickets which I will gladly give away if anyone wants them). But someone has to win so.... Kneelers.

Tennessee at Houston 1:00 pm CBS NRG Stadium The Titans are rolling. Roll Titans roll. Titans.

N.Y. Giants at Tampa Bay 4:05 pm FOX Raymond James Stadium The Giants.. well... Oh and three and on the way to oh and four. Bucs.

Philadelphia at L.A. Chargers 4:05 pm FOX StubHub Center Even though we're only three games into the season, the Chargers seem snake-bit. They better have their first aid kit this week too. Eagles.

San Francisco at Arizona 4:05 pm FOX University of Phoenix Stadium For one quarter Monday night the Cardinals looked unstoppable. The Niners ain't the Cowboys so... Cardinals.

Oakland at Denver 4:25 pm CBS Authority Field Thought the Raiders were for real till they played like choking dogs Sunday night. And that was against the Deadkins, not the '86 Bears defense. Travel to Denver, playing that Bronco D.... I think they wake up. Raiders.

Indianapolis at Seattle 8:30 pm NBC CenturyLink Field This may have looked like a good catch-up when the schedule was posted, but now.... The Colts beat the Browns yes, and I'm no fan of Michael Bennett and the Bluish-Man Group, but they will beat the Colts. Seahawks.

Monday, Oct 2, 2017

Washington at Kansas City 8:30 pm ESPN Arrowhead Stadium Redskins surprised last week against the Raiders. But until someone beats the Chiefs, I'm staying with them. Chiefs.

Good luck to everyone!
