Before performing a medley of his classic hits like Higher Ground, Signed, Sealed, Delivered Im Yours, and Overjoyed, at the Global Citizen Festival, Stevie Wonder made a passionate speech about unity saying, It is only through life we can make life happen through ourselves and each other. He added, Our global brothers and sisters, I didnt come here to preach, but Im telling you, our spirits must be in the right place all the time.
After encouraging everyone to stand down bigotry and condemn sexism, he insisted that everyone find love. Then with the help of his son Kwame, he said, Im taking a knee for America not just one knee, but both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, and leaders of our world before serving up a musical meal of his hits.
The taking of knee may or may not have been a nod to Colin Kaepernicks silent protest of the National Anthem during NFL games which has been making headlines as of late. Donald Trump recently went on a Twitter rant about the kneeling saying that NFL players who kneel should be fired.
The music legend has been outspoken when it comes to social and environmental advocacy. During the Hand In Hand telethon for Hurricane Harvey, Wonder made a similar speech saying regardless of race, religion, political affiliation or sexual preference that we must help those devastated by the storms. He also took a jab at climate change deniers saying, Anyone who believes theres no such thing as global warming must be blind or unintelligent. Lord, please save us all.
All of this nonsense is based on a lie. The premise for all this kneeling protesting is a lie.
The police don’t shoot and kill more black men and they certainly don’t want to. The fact is more black men per capita commit crimes so they are in the position of getting shot. Also they don’t listen and do what the officer says so they get shot.
Are there some bad shoots? Yep; but not just on blacks. This nonsense needs to be said far and wide. This protest is based on a lie. Period. This is not a civil rights issue. This is a stupid black man issue not following instructions issue.
LOL Will Smith got it..and that is why he never left America, wouldnt want to have to give all that dough to the Govt..none of them do..make a threat to tax them 80 percent and WOW you will see them cry like lil babies..meanwhile I just saw a beautiful video, in Canada, during an NHL game, the microphone went out during OUR National Anthem, so what did those in attendance do, they sang the National Anthem, all of them..makes me love hockey, even in Canada, they have more respect for America than these liberal douche bags in America who live here sad isn’t it
These morons may have to revisit the lesson. Let them learn once more who gave them their riches and power.
Rich blacks are on a attention whore extravaganza. It’s ugly.
[They love the idea of redistribution of wealth.]
As long as it isn’t theirs.
These people don’t even believe the bullsh** they’re peddling to the great unwashed.
...Both knees in prayer for... our leaders of the world?
Ditto!
Even Brother Ray could see that Stevie is as dumb as a stump.
He met his wife on a blind date.
AMERICA
FIRST
LAST
ALWAYS!
that’s cold, man!
True, but cold!
LOL
As Dirty Harry said, "A man's got to know his limitations."
Artists need to realize they just don't know squat about politics. They just get used as very visible puppets by others. I believe 90% of them are simply manipulated and ignorant, not intentionally evil.
To quote Eddie Murphy, “The playing and the singing don’t impress me, you want to impress me, take the wheel m....... f......”
Neither did he!!!!
***BAM***
(I'm here all week, matinee on Tuesday)
Im taking a knee for America”
Not FOR America, AGAINST America.
The hilarious aspect of this whole ‘taking the knee’ thing is a football move which essentially says, “I quit!” . . . or the play is over.
I seem to remember that in the old days the symbolic protest was ‘grabbing the crotch’ instead of placing the hand over the heart. Except that nobody seemed to care much one way or the other about that silent protest.
Good post. I wish the media would report the truth about this.
Yeah exactly.
