Just when I thought they might be done, our peppers are coming on strong again, that and the secondary growth broccoli. 4 broccoli plants seem to be enough for the 2 of us. we eat a lot when the first heads come in, and then steam a minute or 2 and vacuum seal and freeze any extra. Had a nice unexpected meal’s worth plus leftovers yesterday.

Nothin’ prettier than a greenhouse, ‘cept maybe a speckled pup! :)

I cannot WAIT to get started on ours. I really miss having one - had a small 10x8x6 at my other farm, but left it behind for the new owners.

Arugula is so yummy! I like it in small doses, though I had a fabulous arugula and roasted beet salad at a restaurant one time that was Da Bomb!

I found the garlic clove that the cat took - he was just playing with it, no teeth marks, so into the ground it goes!

How cute! I have persians - they are calm, almost like stuffed cats. I miss the antics of real kitties.

Gorgeous day here. Our maple trees along the driveway have just the slightest ‘blush’ of color and I noticed the other day that the “smell” of fall was in the air on occasionally

The garden is slowly going - one tomato plant is about dead. I did a major picking earlier this week - anything with a hint of color came off the vine. In 3 days, those green tomatoes were almost ripe & the ripe ones were almost too ripe. Yesterday, I spent 4.5 hours peeling tomatoes & cutting up for salsa (I take out the seeds). I have enough tomatoes for 2 batches (7 qts per batch) & that canning project is happening this morning.

My basil took a hit on a cool morning (40’s) - several plants have dead leaves so I need to make another pesto batch before we get another cool spell. Half the plants are fine & half have some blackened leaves.

The jalapenos are finally coming in - good thing because I have requests for Jalapeno Pepper Jelly. This past weekend, I met a couple at a Crab Feast & somehow we got to talking hot food - I mentioned the JPJ & he begged me for some. He’s in the Navy, being transferred soon, so I need to get on the ball. I’m including a few other homemade items in his JPJ package with a note “thank you for your service”. They were a totally charming couple & great fun to pick crabs with. BTW, if I had to pick crabs to survive or make a living, I’d be dead or broke.

Once the canning is done (salsa today, JPJ tomorrow), I still have some fields to mow - got most of them earlier this week. It’s great mowing weather and it’s something that I find relaxing so I’m looking forward to it. After that, I’m going to break down the straw bale garden & work the compost in, then see what I can do about some fall crops. Tried to get a head start last month with some seeds in a little ‘greenhouse’ thing I bought & it didn’t go well.

Right now, I’ve got too many things to do and not enough hours in the day - just feeling blessed to have the good health & physical ability to be able to tackle it all & eventually, it will get done. :-)

They have left a long trail of broken things behind them so far. Two lamps, a window shade, some picture frames...

My current decor style is, ‘I Have Kittens.’

Chopping/freezing the last of the sweet peppers, today. Not a huge crop due to wet weather this season.
Pantry is filling up; there are also lots of veggies and zucchini noodles in the freezer.
This weeks bounty that I am still dealing with. The small, 'Juliet' tomatoes will be dried. The 'Chef's Orange' tomatoes have been made into salsa and the peppers are on the chopping block, today!
And, just for fun. Here is Belle, displaying her creativity when it comes to using her dog bed, LOL!

LOL sounds like fun actually. I was just telling the vet a couple days ago, when she was saying how pretty my big Persian was, that the Persian litter I adopted was the most boring set of kittens I’ve ever had. They played by bedding things around and that was it. Then they went to lay down. They didn’t get into anything, didn’t climb drapes, didn’t knock over anything, it’s just like having stuffed toys that eat and poop. Oh and purr. They are sweet and they purr a lot. But exciting? No!

My Dad was such a huge garlic fan I stuck a clove in his jacket pocket when he passed.

I do all of it on the deck (the other ain’t looking too good - bugs eating stuff) - so I bring them in when it’s that cold. That’s not an option for folks putting them in the ground obviously.

Nice. I hope it holds off. I have not gotten as many peppers as I hoped (planted hundreds of plants) but maybe have had more than I did last year - though not all the chocolate ones I got last year.

One planter stopped draining so I drowned a few accidentally - didn’t notice it wasn’t draining for a couple days - About 2/3 survived but they’re not doing much. Still have 2 others that are going good - if we can last until October or early November (often possible). I’ve got a few that are going in two other planters, mostly 1/2 of a planter mixed in with Jalapeno, Serrano (not sure I’ve seen any yet), Sweet Snacking Pepper (a huge harvest of ONE orange one) mixed in. I I think the Jalapenos took over the box - they may have cross-breeded with the others, lol.

Hello from Massachusetts! The one good thing that I did this season was to seed a planter on the deck on 8/14 with packets of Arugula (from 2016), Buttercrunch lettuce (2016), Parris Island Cos Lettuce (2016) Corn Salad D’Etampes (2016) and Green and purple basil (2008). All came up and we are presently having them for salads. I watered them once or twice and that was it. They’re beautiful and delicious.

We had one good tomato due to our blight. An animal, possibly a squirrel, took a bite out of it. We ate the rest and it was one of the best, sweetest tomatoes I’ve ever had. :)

Glad to hear that you’re doing well in Missouri. Take care of that back.

I hear you. We’ve thought of buying a vacation home in Florida. Thank goodness we didn’t.

I actually LOVE Florida, and miss it terribly...but this latest hurricane brought back traumatic memories of Hurricane Wilma!
