Some Glades residents fleeing Hurricane Irma left their pets tethered to trees and cars before evacuating the area, county officials said Saturday.
Dianne Sauve, head of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, said the department will be pursuing criminal charges against owners who abandoned their dogs and left them tied up in places where they would not be able to escape the storm.
Animal control officers rescued 26 dogs from Pahokee and Belle Glade on Friday.

Cleveland nonkill shelter took unadopted dogs and cats from some Florida shelters in advance of the hurricane to give them room for these kinds of things. Wish I could remember the name of the shelter. It was awesome.
No, they tied them out there so they would be seen and rescued.
Where can they take the pets? I don’t think owners can take them to shelters with them.
Son was maybe ten...great people.
There were shelters that were accepting pets.
That’s another possibility.
If we had to evac, we could put our lizards in shoeboxes. As soon as their temperatures dropped to ambient, they would just lie there indefinitely.

She needed the surgery so you can’t blame yourself. Nemo’s Vet always had this “Im smarter than everyone else” kind of personality, but he was Nemo’s vet since he was a pup so that is why we took him to him..charged a fortune but never once said that he needed to see a cardiologist. If we could go back in time wouldn’t that be great, but sometimes even when we do that we can’t change the outcome. We didn’t want to do cremation, its a Jewish thing..found the perfect spot for him, in between two trees, Nemo LOVED peeing on every tree it was his thing and he is buried next to a pup named Skippy, which is the nickname for my nephew so thought maybe it was a sign
They let Vick have a dog again. God help it.
That’s why I love our Vets. There are six doctor’s in the office and they consult with each other and all have specialties. I miss my little guy but I couldn’t let him suffer any longer and Abby is filling that empty spot. I did the cremation mostly so that I could always take him with me. My other past dogs have been buried on the farm. I couldn’t do that with him for some reason.
For the life of me I cannot understand the thought process of anyone even thinking about doing this. Why on earth would people like this even want to have animals?
I have a lot of critters, we don’t live where there are hurricanes but we did have to deal with wild land fire a few years ago. We gathered critters- horses, dogs, cats...and honestly could not get them all...felt so bad we had to leave an old blind horse and a donkey in the pasture because they just lost their mind and we could not catch them. At that point flames were coming across the pasture. We did leave all the gates open and that donkey led that blind horse out of there to safety. That was truly amazing. If no other options please don’t leave them penned, tied, or otherwise contained and unable to even try to save themselves.
They depend on us so we have to do our very best even in an emergency. We even tried to go back for the horse and donkey after getting everyone and all the other critters out of the fire and to safety but by then firefighters would not let us go back. It was a major relief to find them after the fire was out and realize the donkey had to lead that blind horse out of there.
Nemo’s Vet works for himself so that is what was bad about it..when he finally went to a cardiologist(After he had the fluid) that place was MUCH better, has 6 vets plus 2 cardiologists would have been much better for Nemo to go there, again another regret :( We still have Maxie, he’s an 11 year old Shih Tzu, such a sweetie and he knew days in advance that Nemo was going to die, he was very depressed..slept a lot..the day Nemo died they brought Maxie to him so he could see his body and say goodbye but Maxie just turned his head, he knew..dogs are so smart..now Maxie has turned into Nemo in a weird way..he follows my sister EVERYWHERE, never used to do that before that was a Nemo thing..he is obsessed with food, again that was a Nemo thing..so in a weird way Maxie has turned into Nemo maybe he is doing it to take his place. My sister didnt want to bury Nemo in the backyard of their home because they thought what if they move what happens to Nemo they can’t dig him up and mess with his final resting place so a cemetery was the best place
And of course they’ll demand their pets be returned to them after they’re rescued. The drowned ones can be buried by PETA.
I think that if there had been a pet cemetery here I would have done that but wasn’t. Yes, they do know. My daughter still has Kipper’s brother. He just turned 14. I babysit him during the day while they work and he changed after he lost Kipper. Dogs are smarter than some people know and they do feel love.

Its the only pet cemetery in Los Angeles County its been around a really long time and they can never build over the land its protected land which is good. Never even knew about the place til Nemo passed..here is Nemo and Maxie together I gotta get a better close up of Maxie

Dogs are super smart. The neighbors dog Nola she is a pit bull mix(Such a sweet girl) she always used to go to my sisters house but stopped when Nemo got sick because he was not allowed to get stressed out. When Nemo died, Nola came over and always used to run to the computer room to grab some of the toys and destroy them..this time she ran into the computer room(Its also the room that Nemo died in) and she just stood there and after a minute walked out, walked back into the kitchen and sat on the floor with her tail down..even dogs that didnt live there knew!
I didn’t know if that was an option, which is why I asked. I live in tornado country, not hurricane zones.
Humans become the animals when disaster and catastrophe strikes.
