Some Glades residents fleeing Hurricane Irma left their pets tethered to trees and cars before evacuating the area, county officials said Saturday.
Dianne Sauve, head of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, said the department will be pursuing criminal charges against owners who abandoned their dogs and left them tied up in places where they would not be able to escape the storm.
Animal control officers rescued 26 dogs from Pahokee and Belle Glade on Friday.

Lowlife scum, every one.
How ANYONE who has a dog can just leave their pet tied to a tree knowing they will probably drown I will NEVER understand. We recently lost our pup Nemo to pulmonary hypertension we did EVERYTHING under the sun to save his life but were unsuccessful, Id gladly take any of these pups left abandoned by their “Owners” and I say that loosely. If they could no longer take care of them or had no where to go themselves they could have taken these animals to an animal shelter, not leave them to die alone
A few weeks ago here in LA, a dog was left tied to a tree in South Central in the hot sun for hours, the neighbor called the cops and when the police arrive the dog was already dead, yep a pit bull..the pup was left without any water or food
You are correct
Same here. I lost my 14-year old Jack Russell in January to Autoimmune Disease of the Nervous System. He blew out his ACL and I had the surgery done. Three months after the surgery he started limping on the other back leg. The one we had fixed healed perfectly. Vets here didn’t know what was wrong so I took him to a specialist at UT in Knoxville. We did everything to save him but when it attacked his liver I had to have him put to sleep. For almost a year I carried him out and carried him in. I loved that boy! Ending his suffering by letting him go was the hardest thing I have ever done so I can’t imagine how anybody could just leave one to die.
“effing bassturds, they ought to be tied to trees the next hurricane and left to fend for themselves”
I AGREE. Some people don’t DESERVE pets.
For the rest of their lives, they should have to visit every neighbor within a square km and let them know what they did and inform them that they are prohibited from owning pets...like a child molester.
Had neighbors who would leave a small dog tied in the backyard in the Texas heat and it was always running out of water. I call the SPCA and they wouldn’t even come check. I started using my water hose to make sure the bowl was filled. Eventually they either took the dog inside or got rid of it.
I am so sorry for your loss. Nemo was a Pomeranian mix(mostly Pom) he was around the same age as your pup(No birth certificate so its a guess his true age but age estimate around 14-15) Poms tend to get trachea collapse which is what he got..diagnosed in 2012..was fine til November 2016 when the cough started getting bad, stupid Vet of his recommended a teeth cleaning to “Fix it” never heard of such a thing but he had it done, changed nothing. Was put on a cough suppressant, which ended up giving him stomach inflammation, was given a steroid injection which ended up giving him pancreatitis. Late March one day bam, fluid in the heart/lungs(Congestive heart failure) was put on meds, a few days later, started the collapsing for no reason, was pulmonary hypertension, given 6-9 months to live. In August he got pneumonia, the mucus just never cleared up and August 30th his body just gave up :( died in my brother in laws arms. At least he went out his way, in the arms of people who loved him. Found a beautiful place here in LA(Its in Calabasas the only pet cemetery in LA county) will have a beautiful tombstone made for him..that is why I hate hearing stories like this how people can just leave their pet to drown I just don’t understand
Most people on this forum, myself included, would agree with you.
Yep. That’s exactly their thinking.
I cannot claim, as a white person, that my culture respects all life more. But we do care about our domestic pets. They are part of the family. And I have seen Blacks, Latinos, and Asians who are the same way, but they are not firmly in the majority, from what I can tell.
I figured that if they just didn’t care they would leave the dogs loose.
Awwwwwwwwwwww such a beautiful pup!!! Its hard losing our fur babies but I always have regrets I think that is the worst part of it all, regretting not taking him to a cardiologist when the cough started, he probably had heart issues for a while but no one noticed because he showed no symptoms. We never noticed anything other than the cough, but the “What ifs” thats what always kills ya inside :(
Here is a pic of Nemo he was the sweetest pup but I guess Im biased. At least I know that Nemo is among friends and has a new friend in Kipper..running around, jumping, playing and having a ball

Two rules for pets in my family.
1. We do not leave family behind.
2. We do not eat family.
And yes they are nonhuman members of the family.
Nice picture. :)
OMGoodness! So cute! I have regrets too. I regret having the surgery done because it led to the other problems but the surgery is so common that nobody expected anything like this too happen. Still, they both had good long lives, they were both loved, and both would have gone soon anyway. I had Kipper cremated and keep his little box on the coffee table.
I dunno about that...could be fake news at work here.
