TIME Magazine released its list of "TIME Firsts: Women who are changing the world," and among those honored in the project is Texas-native, Selena Gomez. The actress and singer was given a cover photo and was listed as the "first person to reach 100 million followers on Instagram." The 25 year old singer is actually one of 46 women featured in this weeks Time magazine for their feature called "Women Who are Changing the World."

"Patricia Bath First person to invent and demonstrate laserphaco cataract surgery
Ann Dunwoody First woman to rise to four-star general in the U.S. military
Lori Robinson First woman to lead a top-tier U.S. Combat Command
Carla Hayden First woman and first African American to be Librarian of Congress"
I’m not sure how ANY of the ones you mentioned or Gomez have changed the WORLD.
That’s a tremendous statement.
7 continents and a lot of people.
The closest who came to changing the world were Reagan, Churchill, and some others.
And still that didn’t affect every country in every continent.
Just another stupid phrase form the media.
When is she going to sell 100 million CDs ???
YAWN
Never heard of her. Personally, none of the woman are memorable. Their influence, if any, was so short that 99.99% of the American public would recognize them, or care. Are their any woman in American history that are remembered over several generations, for more than even one?
Amelia Earhart
Susan B Anthony
Grace Kelly
Jackie O
Mary Shelley
Who the hell is that 12 year old?
A Time cover would be going to far back in the days when the magazine meant something.
But nowadays, it's an appropriate reward.
Eat all your vegetables and stay out of prison and you too may end up on the cover of Time magazine.
Those two deserve each other.
Look at the tightness in both faces, she is grimacing and he is barely able to smile.... I think this was one of the most awkward “marriage of convenience” moments evaahhh....
I think Hillary was first at that.
Lamar, Goodall, Fossey, Sanger, Steinem, Anthony, Grandlin, Earhart, Roosevelt, Thatcher, Curie, Nightingale, Mother Teresa, Gandhi, deArc, Montessori, Parks, Tubman, Stowe, Pocahontas, Frank, Cleopatra, Dickenson, Bronte, Austen, etc.
ha ha, true, I was just trying to give Huma a boost..... hee hee
Not nearly the first, but I get your point.
Many of them are not women, many are not American. Okay, Gomez probably isn’t either. Pocahontas? Didn’t she sell out her people? Like Sacajawea did? Gandhi is not inspring. Wasn’t she really a war criminal?
The most followers on Instagram is not her doing. She has a PR company that specializes in that. In other words she bought those followers. Selena is getting those followers between her age and the fact that she is a cross section of Instagram aged Hispanics and American pop kids. She has also palled around with Miley, Bieber and Taylor so she is getting their followers as well. And then there is Disney.
If you want to give her an award for something, give her an award for going threw chemo while keeping her career going. She has Lupus. And with such health issues at a young age she is doing pretty well.
Didn’t say they were my heroes.
