The killer storm — responsible so far for 25 deaths across he Caribbean — is expected to pummel the Florida Keys early Sunday, then slam Fort Myers, Naples and Tampa with 130-mph winds and drenching rain.Coastal water could rise up to 15 feet — flooding homes and businesses, forecasters warned.

“In the FLORIDA KEYS, it is a full-scale hurricane emergency,” The Weather Channel’s Bryan Norcross posted to Facebook. “Key West is probably going to get its worst storm in modern history, and perhaps ever.”

And Miami isn’t in the clear either.

While the state’s largerst metro region is out of the predicted area for the eye of the hurricane, Irma is so huge that its 130 mph winds could stretch 100 miles wide.

The shift in the forecast, combined with a downgrading of the storm to a Category 3 hurricane, has National Hurricane Center spokesman and meteorologist Dennis Feltgen worried that people will misinterpret the level of danger.

I would still like to live in Florida, but i would build a base of double stacked connex for a foundation and then would build a poured concrete wall design and ultimately a concrete fabric roof. Designed to withstand even a direct tornado strike. And high enough to be above flood waters.

Most important is a barrier or fence to keep out intruders.

It looks like it will crush Key West, but Miami will on the outskirts and may not get it too hard????

News Reporter on TV: "What happens if go to a shelter, and it's full, and you can't get in?

Miami-Dade Police: "If you can't get into a shelter, the best thing to do is to hunker down and do the best you can."

Or offer to rebuild in another better areas. Stupid is as stupid does. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over when it doesn't work. Politicians are often insane.

If flooding is the issue, in Canada they build homes with Styrofoam basis connected under them. When it floods the houses raise and float. When it dries they come back down. I think they are anchored with hooks that are unhooked during flood high waters.

How about government mandating flood insurance on a home that sits above the Ohio 1937 flood level? Costing me and neighbors a fortune and very expensive to get exempted.

Even out-of-control hyperbole from a GOP governor !

He HAS to, or the media will say he didn't care enough about the Blacks in Tampa. Remember the Katrina smears of Bush?*

*Only applies to Republicans. Media did not report on how Obama totally ignored Midwest floods and TX wildfires.
