The University of California Berkeley is making counseling and other services available to students who may be upset or "threatened" by conservative writer Ben Shapiro's upcoming appearance on campus. In a memo published on Friday ahead of the event, the University reminded students that support services would be available if they were to need them.
UC Berkeley is offering counseling services to those upset by Ben Shapiro's speech
We are deeply concerned about the impact some speakers may have on individuals sense of safety and belonging. No one should be made to feel threatened or harassed simply because of who they are or for what they believe. For that reason, the following support services are being offered and encouraged:
When asked by The Daily Signal why counseling services would be offered specifically for Shaprio's speech, the assistant vice chancellor at the universitys Office of Communications and Public Affairs responded that students--both liberals and conservatives--had voiced concerns about Antifa and other violent groups coming to campus to disrupt the speech.
Still, it's rather absurd that counselors could even be considered to be necessary for a speech by a relatively mainstream conservative figure. Ben Shapiro is not a threatening figure. There's no need for Antifa to stage a Milo Yiannopoulos-esque protest, nor is there any real reason for a student to be disturbed to the point of needing a counselor over a political figure coming to campus. If they don't want to hear what Shapiro has to say, they can simply skip the speech. (I'm sure there's plenty to do in Berkeley besides going to this talk.)
The real world doesn't come with easily-available counselors and safe spaces. Sometimes people disagree on things, and sometimes it gets awkward. UC Berkeley is one of the best schools in the nation--it's high time they start treating their students like adults.
Shapiro is a 3 foot tall NeverTrumper. Not only do I find it amazing that anyone would be intimidate by him, they would probably agree with him more than they would disagree.
“Threatened by Ben Shapiro.” That just takes the cake.
Several sources say he’s 5’4”, as I am (on a low-gravity day).
Bump!
Taxpayer funded idiocy When we are asked to pay more taxes i cite examples like this that we already pay enough if government can waste funds on this nonsense.
Which is why I once hoped he would take an interest in my daughter, because she’s 5’2”, if you’re credulous.
They’re scared of ideas!
They can’t hear certain ideas without being psychologically harmed!
Sounds like they should offer "safety" from Antifa and other violent groups, not Shapiro.
note to self - buy stock in play dough before the speech
Student Voices: My class talked with a Trump supporter. Heres what I learned.

The most DANGEROUS man in America! Since he is a nevertrumper, some of us may agree, too bad he uses all that brain power to trash the Prez
It seems to me that if you think Ben Shapiro is a threat to Trump, you must think Trump is weak.
Although he is a Never Trumper, he is also very capable in dealing with idiotic Liberals by using the one tool they fear, common sense.
I met him a few years ago. I don’t remember him being “that” short, and I’m 6’2”.
His arguments against Abortion lovers is devastating. People should check out his appearances on YouTube.
One of my favorites is when he was sitting next to a Transgender (male to female) who threatened him with physical violence for not buying into the lie.
Say what you will, Mr. Shapiro is out there in the thick of things fighting for Conservatism. He doesn’t back down even in the face of upset snowflakes who could turn violent at every second.
Take a page from their notebook: every Christian, Young Republican and conservative should go their and seek counseling for their fear of getting clubbed by a U-lock. Overwhelm the counslers with shear numbers.
He is no threat to Trump. He just has a big mouth on the topic
He has a certain cadence. As a thought—A dangerous journey, any movement at all, Republicans have declared fetuses to be immigrants, so there.
