A private jet brought 30 dogs to John Wayne Airport, and four more were expected to make their way to California soon.
Some dogs were carried out of the jet, while others made their way down on their own, video showed.
Alex Tonner, the organizations director of operations, said there are thousands of dogs affected by the storm that need homes.
...
Local dog rescues and shelters have committed to helping find homes for the dogs that were flown in and were present Saturday when the dogs arrived.

gosh i hope their families aren’t looking for them. what do you do when you have to decide whether to wade out with children on your shouldersor pets?awful, awful.
Exactly—way too soon for the vast majority of these animals to be moved.
But the export of pets from the South to parts of the country that don’t generate enough desirable shelter animals of their own has become a big business.
This is nuts. It is way too soon to give away the lost pets of hurricane victims.
Think of the little kids or old folks who lost everything and have hope to find their little lost best friends.
Are these pets from Texas?
Why are they in SoCal now?
Shouldn’t those pets be considered as stolen?
Pets with tags should be returned to their owners NOW
Pets shouldn’t be adopted out till their rightful owners have a chance to locate them. But how would they know to search for them in SoCal?
Bad enough people experiencing a flood and then having to deal searching for their pets out of State... and who’s going to pay for the transport?
Sounds like a dog stealing ring out of California. Texas needs to investigate.
Put your dog on a leash...he will swim.
The shelters and rescues were already stretched before Harvey. Due to the financial strain illegals placed on small cities along the border some cities were/are shutting down ‘non-essential’ services which is a catagory that animal services fall into. Any pets remaining by the close date were euthanized. Rescues in Texas are already stretched with pets pulled from those shelters.
We have two Texas dogs, Iris and Thor. Iris, a sweet-eyed heeler/spaniel mix, was pulled from Crystal City shelter that was closing, by Cressie Animal Refuge and Enrichment (CARETX) based in San Antonio. Thor, a black Staffie/Sharpei was pulled from Pearland Animal Services in Houston area, by CARETX per my request. The daughter of the Animal Services Director drove Thor from Pearland-Houston to San Antonio to deliver him to CARETX. Wonderful, caring people.
Pearland is affected by the flooding however their dogs and cats had been picked up by a rescue and taken out of the area as they are taking in pets affected by Harvey as well as making available pet supplies. They have also set up an area with supplies for horses as well.
CARETX and Austin Pets Alive are taking in pets as well. Please donate directly to local shelters and rescues as larger organization like PETA and HSUS are like the Red Cross.

but my 2 cats won’t.
Do NOT donate to PETA or HSUS. They are not animal lovers, they kill pet.
These dogs are strays or owner turn-ins prior to the hurricane. For financial reasons, no animal rescue will take in dogs if their owners can be found.
oh that is good to know.
“Do NOT donate to PETA or HSUS. They are not animal lovers, they kill pet.”
Exactly. Thank you for emphasizing as I was unclear. peta has kill vans and adoptable pets can go directly from their owner/finder to their death without touching a shelter. Do they include those pets in their yearly stats of pets euthanized? I assume not.
And regarding HUMANE society, when I contacted them about placing neglected strays with them with them,I was told they were putting their money into attorneys. Another PETA wannabe organization.
There are little difference between them and organizations like the SPLC, funneling millions off to shore banks. Th are not in the business of pets but in the business of making money. NPR and PBS likewise.
They should not be nonprofits.
All I meant is you should have a plan. Put your cat in a big cooler with a fluffy blanket. It will float. I even have a evacuation plan for my bird. Not for my fish????
