FULL TITLE: The bloody moment New York Mets slugger breaks his own nose by hitting a foul ball into his face in freak accident
Mets infielder Wilmer Flores was forced to leave Saturday night's game against the Houston Astros after he managed to hit a foul ball directly into his nose.
Flores was up against Astros starter Brad Peacock in the fourth inning when he fouled off the pitch directly into his face during the game in Houston.
Blood gushed from his nose immediately after the ball made contact.

Freakin hurts just watchin...
I hit a foul ball once off of my ankle, and that was not pleasant.
I can only imagine it going off of a nose.
That hurt so bad ‘I’ have tears in my eyes just from watching the video.
In Jr High back in the 70s our stupid gym teacher, during a “soft” ball game, had us stand on line to bat along the 3rd base line! Well, sure enough, my friggin luck, a sharply hit ball hits me right in the face. I go to the school nurse and she cleaned the wound and sent me home, on my own at 13 years old. I was still so dazed and disoriented that I had a difficult time getting home. If this whole episode happened today my family probably could have sued the school for a million bucks.
And he’s not only a good solid ball player, but he comes across as a very humble, decent sort of guy.
He had a nose for the ball.
There’s nothing funny about this. It’s not like he was some POS street thug who had beat up or robbed an elderly person. He’s a decent guy. Even the players on the opposing team were visibly shook up by what happened.
Owsers. There have been a number of attempts to come up with a batting helmet that protects the face better and nobody has really come up yet with something the majority of the players really like. Lots of them prefer to play without cups, too (Adrian Beltre, white courtesy telephone). And pay the price.

So sad and he is one of the more likable Mets. When he thought he was traded away a few years back he actually cried. Good kid - sorry to see happen to anyone especially Wilmer.
