Sibongile Mani, 27, could face fraud and theft charges after she splurged the cash in 73 days
The accountancy student, who is at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa, gets £85 each month put into her bank account in food and book allowances.
But instead the company that administers the financial aid allowances at the university called Intellimali fouled up and sent £850,000 in cash to the hard up student.
In a Facebook post Sibongile claimed she had reported the error to the authorities.
She said: "Today my personal life has become a social media scandal. I have been named and shamed in public. Today, I am a bad person, a person who stole the money of students.
“With that being said, and being named a thief, but as we all know in every story there is truth and there are lies with the very same story”.

You stole the money. Don’t try to blame anyone other than yourself, or someone will think you’re a specially-privileged government-certified minority group member.
She should have bought a business.
And when she told them about it they didn't, apparently, take it back.
After a bit she regarded it as hers and started to spend it.

She was studying accountancy. Methinks she flunked.
Accounting major. Who didn’t give back the money after discovering the error. Good luck getting a job.

Oh dear. I'm guessing this person will not exactly be fighting off job offers at accounting firms.
I would spend not more than half on a fast car, a bike or two, keep the rest for maintenance and a better carport.

Reminds me of the time a friend of mine found extra money in her account. She quickly spent it for fear that the bank might claim it back.
Of course, she had to return the money and she was out several hundred dollars. Not completely, she had a fun spending spree at her own expense.
