Cowboys Quarterback Stands For The Flag, Refuses To Take ‘Freedom For Granted’

It’s been over a year since Colin Kaepernick started his national anthem protest, but he’s now unemployed and there are plenty of NFL quarterbacks still standing.

Nearly every notable player in the NFL has been asked about their stance on Kaepernick’s protest and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is one of the latest to make his position clear.

“I mean, it’s bigger than I think some of us think,” Prescott told Yahoo Sports on Sunday. “It’s just important for me to go out there, hand over my heart, represent our country and just be thankful and not take anything I’ve been given and my freedom for granted.”

The Dallas Cowboys held a high-esteem for the national anthem and the American flag throughout the 2016-17 season while players around the league took a knee in solidarity with Kaepernick. That stance has presumably come down from owner Jerry Jones, although he hasn’t told his players any specific way to act when the anthem is played, according to Sports Day.

“I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan. “I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it.”

While Jones may not have specifically directed his players to stand, it’s clear that his star quarterback shares the same mindset.

I might actually have to watch a Cowboy game or 2 now. Need to find where I put my Dallas shirts and hats.

That protest in front of the NFL league offices back on the 23rd of August actually backfired on Kaepernick because it may have made even less teams want to sign him.

NFL: Negros, Felons, and Liberals. No one else invited or desired.

I won’t participate with an anti-American and anti-White organization like the NFL.

If we are going to trash Kaepernick we should congratulate this young man for his stance.

My problem is that I am from Dallas, went to the Cowboys games back in the Cotton Bowl and maintained a love for them until Jones treated Landry like a wet rag.

Haven’t even looked at their stats for the last 10 years.

I predict Mr. Prescott gets a HUGE ovation on opening day because of this.

A well deserved one, I might add.

You said it, brother. That was rotten to the core. I always thought it was a shameless attempt to emulate George Steinbrenner.

And to Tom Landry of all people.

For what it’s worth, many of us share your angst, and are slow to let Jones off the hook.

I’m the same way! Hated how they treated Landry. I don’t even know if they’re having a winning season some years I’m so tuned out.

He probably had no idea the camera was on him. He just did it because it was the right thing to do!

Well coaches who finish 3-13, do tend to get fired.

Keep in mind that we are talking about AMERICA’S TEAM. How would it look if someone from AT took a knee during the Anthem? Not very good I can assure you.

Are they seriously trying to make me start watching the Cowboys football games again? Because this seems like a really good effort on their part to make me like the Cowboys again.

Didn't you hear what Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said?

Jerry Jones: Cowboys Will Stand For The Flag Or “Your Ass Will Be Off The Team”

I'll be watching the Miami Dolphins closely this year. If a single player pulls any disrespectful stunts like they did last year, I'll switch my support to the Cowboys. Now I know why the Cowboys are "America's Team"...
