It’s been over a year since Colin Kaepernick started his national anthem protest, but he’s now unemployed and there are plenty of NFL quarterbacks still standing.
Nearly every notable player in the NFL has been asked about their stance on Kaepernick’s protest and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is one of the latest to make his position clear.
“I mean, it’s bigger than I think some of us think,” Prescott told Yahoo Sports on Sunday. “It’s just important for me to go out there, hand over my heart, represent our country and just be thankful and not take anything I’ve been given and my freedom for granted.”
The Dallas Cowboys held a high-esteem for the national anthem and the American flag throughout the 2016-17 season while players around the league took a knee in solidarity with Kaepernick. That stance has presumably come down from owner Jerry Jones, although he hasn’t told his players any specific way to act when the anthem is played, according to Sports Day.
“I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan. “I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it.”
While Jones may not have specifically directed his players to stand, it’s clear that his star quarterback shares the same mindset.

Are they seriously trying to make me start watching the Cowboys football games again? Because this seems like a really good effort on their part to make me like the Cowboys again.
Well it’s a good counter balance to Kaepernick’s stunt that back fired.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones won't take that $hit!
He would probably demote him & bring back Romo LOL
Just another display of a white supremacists/nazi/racis’/kkk’r at work. Of course he would stand for the repressive nationalist anthem. Like ‘they’ say, if you honor and support the country, you are obviously a racis’ at the very least. And probably worse. Gettin’ just a little fed up with the constant barrage of these assclowns.
Good for him. I’m glad to see him make that statement. And if he has a season like Kaepernick just had, he’ll get cut too.
Just showing again how much of a cultural difference it is growing up in the South versus the Northeast. I grew up in NY and moved to Florida in 1991. I tell my Northern friends that race relations seem so much better in the South than the North in general and it comes through in ways like this.
Dak grew up in Louisiana and went to Mississippi State. Kaepernick grew up in California and played at Nevada. There’s just a different paradigm. Look at all the SEC players in the NFL and how many of them get themselves into political flaps versus so many others around the country?
Look at Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neill and Bo Jackson and Herschel Walker. All have their heads on straight and when they talk up on race you listen because they are not ‘cheap shot racism’ athletes. All born and raised in the South, all have gone through their own racial incidents of prejudice, but able to understand that it is about the individual, not the color or the geography.
Good to see a guy standing up and being a MAN...instead of an asshole.
I’ve been an NFL fan for 50 years. I hated the Cowboys and Patriots. Now those are the only two teams I have any interest in. The rest of the league and their leftist commissar or commissioner can go to hell.
The reason: Dak Prescott was raised right!
Thank you for posting this.
I was watching one of the games last year and they showed Dak sitting on the bench drinking a cup of water. He finished it and threw the cup at the trash can, but he missed it. Rather than leave it there for someone else to deal with, he got up and picked it up off the ground and put it in the trash. That incident spoke volumes.
I believe Jerry Jones said he wouldn’t play anyone who took a knee or protested the anthem.
This really sucks. How am I supposed to keep hating the Cowboys when their owner and quarterback talk this way???
If they can chuck the pink shoes and towels and just play the damn game I may start watching the Cowboys again.
I saw that live myself.
Dak is a good kid.
I know what you mean.
I’m a long time cheesehead (Packer’s fan), but the Cowboys just got bumped up to a solid #2!
No wonder the sports media hates Dallas (their negative bias has been obvious for years).
