I fought a golden gloves boxer in the chow hall at Goose AB Labrador 45 years ago. I him him more often but he hit me a helluva lot harder.
We had a golden glove in our unit. I didn’t know him but got talked into being a practice partner as long as there were no head shots.
One of the worst beatings of my life. He could hit you so hard you would feel the shock wave throughout your body. I did one and ONLY one round and I was done.
Mayweather isn't MMA, and McGregor isn't a pure boxer. That's why this ‘fight’ is a scam that will still make both of them rich-er, along with the promoters. It just doesn't make much sense. If you matched up the world's best swordsman against the worlds best sharpshooter, and started at distance, guess who would win.. Doesn't mean the swordsman isn't great at what he does.
As far as ‘street fighting’ and all the tough guy stuff, neither of these guys would last long. It's those who have no problem shooting you, slicing your throat, or hitting you over the head with a baseball bat who have the advantage.

My dad won a Golden Gloves tournament. He gave one of the gloves to his stepfather, who wore it on his watch chain and was buried with it. The other he gave to a woman he was dating; when they broke up and he asked for it back, she told him she lost it.
Decades later she admitted she had lied, and still had it ;-)
He used to watch the TV fights every week; I’ve often wondered what he’d think of all the ‘flamboyance’ that surrounds boxing now...

I was attached to a Marine unit with a Golden Globes champ, there also was a sailer that was known as one of the best bar brawlers in the fleet on the same ship. They match up for a smoker, the Navy guy had about a hundred pounds on the Marine. The boxer got about twenty punches in before the Navy guy got a shot lined up but once he did, he punched right through the Marines defence and nearly knocked him out of the ring. I learned two things, a boxer would tear me apart and sometimes nothing beats big and mean.
