Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina warned President Trump on Wednesday that his “words are dividing Americans, not healing them” in the wake of the bloody clashes in Virginia that has sparked a national conversation about white supremacists and race.
Mr. Graham also vowed that Republicans will “fight back against the idea that the party of Lincoln has a welcome mat out for the David Dukes of the world.”
“Through his statements yesterday, President Trump took a step backward by again suggesting there is moral equivalency between the white supremacist neo-Nazis and KKK members who attended the Charlottesville rally and people like Ms. [Heather] Heyer,” Mr. Graham said, alluding to the 32-year-old who died after a man drove a car into a crowd of counterprotesters. “I, along with many others, do not endorse this moral equivalency.”

Mr. Trump has said that there is a lot of blame to go around following the violent clashes in Charlottesville, drawing blowback from Republicans and Democrats.

At the time, most of the country didn’t give a rip whether there was slavery or not. They wound up in the south because of the labor intensive economy of cotton, tobacco etc.South no morally better or worse than north...just the way things worked out. If it was cotton in the north it would have been the other way around.

The problem is that the public only remembers the video of the car driving over people. They ask, who did this? Answer is some Nazi lunatic.
Beyond that, all else is irrelevant for the purposes of the public narrative. Why? Because there’s a video of people getting run over and that’s all 99% of people remember.
It was a mistake to discuss both sides because perception is reality. I’m NOT saying he’s wrong or that I disagree with what he said yesterday, I just think the nature of the video changes one’s equation in terms of communication.
He should have condemned the Nazis railed like hell against them, gotten the DOJ and FBI involved to go after the mayor for calling the police off. The latter is the long game. No reason to even go after the mayor now. Simple stating that he’s concerned about reports on the ground of inadequate policing is enough to lay the groundwork for a federal investigation.
No one in the last several decades is as good as Trump at arguing the case against anything, he should have taken the cue. Everyone hates Nazis, he should have taken the football and run with it.
Antifa will be emboldened now and will soon have their own video of mayhem. When THAT video surfaces, doing the same thing (executing a case against antifa’s violence and un-Americanism) would have been easier to do.

I don’t see any monuments to Union soldiers, generals, or parks being attacked. This is worth noting. Admitted, I’m a Union sympathizer so I’m less worried about what happens to Confederate statues.
Every time I start to get annoyed by the anger and demanding attitudes I remember The Cornerstone Speech:
