The problem is that the public only remembers the video of the car driving over people. They ask, who did this? Answer is some Nazi lunatic.
Beyond that, all else is irrelevant for the purposes of the public narrative. Why? Because there’s a video of people getting run over and that’s all 99% of people remember.
It was a mistake to discuss both sides because perception is reality. I’m NOT saying he’s wrong or that I disagree with what he said yesterday, I just think the nature of the video changes one’s equation in terms of communication.
He should have condemned the Nazis railed like hell against them, gotten the DOJ and FBI involved to go after the mayor for calling the police off. The latter is the long game. No reason to even go after the mayor now. Simple stating that he’s concerned about reports on the ground of inadequate policing is enough to lay the groundwork for a federal investigation.
No one in the last several decades is as good as Trump at arguing the case against anything, he should have taken the cue. Everyone hates Nazis, he should have taken the football and run with it.
Antifa will be emboldened now and will soon have their own video of mayhem. When THAT video surfaces, doing the same thing (executing a case against antifa’s violence and un-Americanism) would have been easier to do.
