This Mammoth Burger Challenge Gets Bigger Every Time Someone Completes It

It nows weighs in at 108oz after the last challenger defeated the 102oz version

It started life as a hefty 42oz burger on the menu of a steakhouse but has grown into a challenge that has taken two years to defeat.

Grills Steakhouse, in Pontypridd , launched its burger challenge after the 42oz 'Godziila' wasn't enough for the people taking on food challenges .

The team behind the restaurant decided that if you could complete the challenge, which is worthy of an episode of Man V Food, not only would you get to name the burger, but they'll add an extra 6oz to the next challenge.

And it now stands at 108oz after one diner smashed off the 102oz challenge, which has stood for around two years.

"We started doing a 60oz mixed grill and 60oz steak, they were both challenges based on Man V Food," said Kevin Gutteridge, who founded Grills Steakhouse in 2010.

"We realised something was missing and we brought on burgers.

"So we came up with a burger menu that went from a normal 6oz burger -they're all home made, good quality mince, not overly fatty - we went all the way up to a 42oz 'Godzilla'.

"We thought that'd be enough for people," Kevin added with a laugh.

"So what we said was 'if you eat the Godzilla, we'll name the next burger after you and it will grow'."

And Kevin is keen to stress that just because these burgers feature in a challenge, there's no quality lost - all the patties are homemade with good quality ingredients.

But keeping it together is getting harder.

"They are individual burgers, stacked up, each burger has got cheese and relish on it," he adds.

"They were all 6oz burgers back then, but the burger got so big that we had to make a burger so we didn't have to stack it so high.

"It's quite a feat to have eight 12oz burgers - now nine. It's a bit of a work of art, we have to put three really long skewers in to hold it in place."

Over the last two years the challenge has defeated plenty of challengers, but Grills Steakhouse welcomes people to take on the The Little Binny Mac - as it's now known, thanks to Martin Jones' impressive achievement.

"It's been two years on the Holly's Holy Grill -it's been tried a couple of times a month at least," said Kevin.

"I would probably say easily over 100 people have attempted it since it's been the 102oz burger.

If you want to take on the challenge, the restaurant will need notice - usually 24 hours before - so they can prepare the mega meaty dish.

This reminds me of a conversation I recently had with a friend: Does anybody remember when Wendy's made a GOOD burger?

Also, this seems like a good time to post some Burger Porn

I don’t see how anyone but Fat Bastard could eat that thing. When did we start glorifying gluttony?

It’s utterly lame to just keep tossing another patty on top of the stack when they want to make it bigger. If they want it to be truly iconic, it should be just a single patty, roughly 2” thick, and ever how big around it needs to be to to meet the target weight.
