“Skin graffiti.”

Rod Steiger played “The Illustrated Man”.

“They’re SKIN ILLUSTRATIONS. Don’t you EVER call them tattoos.”

Military-related tattoos are understandable. In a way I think they’ve earned the right for those tattoos.

But on women? Maybe I’m sexist, but a woman should never have a tattoo.

Wow. You are an excellent writer. High five. “If I want to know that much about you, I’ll buy your autobiography.” Amazing.

The author is also an excellent writer. “Tattoos are a kind of corporeal vandalism.” I agree.

Tattoos are permanent and boring.

Oh, come on now! A tattoo can be very practical. Why, there was this country girl with her name beaded into her belt AND also as a tramp stamp across her lower back. How practical! Now her beau de jour is going to know what to call out at the appropriate moment, (I guess on more than one occasion, she heard the wrong name)

I am not whining. I just did not realize how anti-tattoo so many are here. I do not judge people for smoking, wearing white after Labor Day, or those who may do something I do not agree with. I prefer to get to know someone. Granted, if someone has a gang tat or Nazi symbol, I can get a feel for the person and won’t go further. But, whatever. I do not believe I was foolish.

Both my sons have tats. My wife detests them and I’m not real happy about them myself. I’ve never seen anything I liked well enough to have it etched into my skin for the remainder of my life. I thought about having a small 4th Inf. patch put on my upper arm once but that was a mere three years of my life and is 50 years behind me now. I’m just as glad I didn’t.

As I said, I don’t have tats-just my preference-but most of my friends do-most of them are guys-and my co-workers-all but 2 have multiple tats, military and other stuff-and most of them are vets and weekend bikers. A lot of my female friends have tats-all tasteful and small-not what even the guys with tats call “tramp stamps”. Ink is very common out here-no one even notices it.

I went through 4 years in the Navy ('66-'70) without ever getting a tattoo. My fiance' didn't like them, so I didn't either, I guess.

Now that I'm an old guy, I don't care so much what she thinks about it, so I was considering getting one and one only, a Navy Anchor.

When my wife (same woman) asked me why I was considering it at this time of my life, I thought about it for a minute, and told her, "It's so when I get to heaven, I'll get to go right to the VIP lounge".

She just laughed.

People judge all the time, but most of the time they do keep quiet about it.

I’m not saying I couldn’t be friends with somebody with a tattoo, once I got to know them. But as I indicated before, to me, it does not create a good first impression, if I know nothing about that person.

Exactly, now we've reached the point where people get Tats to conform.

I was curious enough to look it up. It's HERE. They're the birthplaces (more or less) of her children.

Thanks. After reading that link maybe a couple of them are actually on a nuclear strike list. :-)
