CANTON, OHIO - The countdown is on. In a matter of hours, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

“It just feels almost unfair to have spent almost 30 years in the NFL, and had as much as I’ve had,” Jerry said, “and still get to be a part of something like this.”

“This is so substantive to me. I’ve experienced some wonderful things, and this is right there with the very best. It’s very humbling. Very humbling," he said.

Humility is not something Jerry Jones possesses.

He’s gotten the NFL some huge money from TV contracts - he’s why the NFL moved the NFC contract from CBS to FOX. The NFL owners were bound to honor him, they owe a lot of revenue to him. But on the downside, his Cowboys blocked my 49ers from a couple of more Super Bowls in the early ‘90s and he was instrumental in helping the Raiders move to Vegas, where they’ll fit like a Hells Angel in a Liberace outfit, complete with feather boa.

Living here, I love Jerry Jones, and I’m not that big of a Cowboys fan, even though I’ve been here now for awhile.

But he’s never boring, and his interviews are always entertaining.

And unlike certain owners, he does truly want to put a winner on the field, even though a lot of his decisions have been head scratchers.

He was a first class low life in the way he treated Tom Landry. I haven’t ever heard him apologize for that.

Landry was a great coach, but it was time for a change. They had gone 3-13 the previous year. Maybe it could have been handled better, I agree. But eventually Jerry at least did put Tom in the “Ring of Honor.”

Time for a change isn’t the issue. He took an icon of the game and the team, and unceremoniously kicked him out like a fired janitor. He didn’t show the slightest iota of respect.

Jones showed zero class. he could have told Landry he wanted new blood and allowed Landry to retire.

But not Jones, at the same time he revoked Landry’s sons 6 season tickets in the stadium. Jones was an ass.

Maybe it was Landry who didn't want to "retire". I always had the impression that he basically dared Jerry to fire him, and left him with no choice.

IIRC, Tom Landry had one year left on his contract, He could have gone one more year under Jones but JJ wanted to build his team from the get go. Landry was expendable. As much as I personally hated the way things went down, I can understand why it happened that way. Had Jimmy Johnson came in the scene a year later, maybe those three Super Bowl wins would never have happened. One of life’s great what if’s.

This as well as the recent HOF induction of baseballs’ former commissioner point up the fact the HOF of baseball and football are a complete farce.

ANY 3-13 coach should expect to be fired, any time, any way.

Exactly how was he a low life in how he treated Landry?
He went and told him personally that he was making a change for head coach. Was that not his right? I have seen a lot of head coaches treated worse than Landry in being let go.

Landry’s time was past and he had a good run as coach, almost 30 years.

Firing Landry was his right as owner. Firing Jimmy Johnson cost him at least one other Super Bowl I believe. Switzer was basically a detaches caretaker. Somehow the team won anyway with him in charge.

Business-wise he has done wonders for the league, putting a lot of money in owners’ pockets.
