All I wanted was a snack," 19-year-old Hannah Dafferner told Fox 5 San Diego.
Dafferner first spotted the the spider, but didn't think it was real initially.
It didnt move at first. I thought my sister put a Halloween decoration there or something. Then it moved its leg. I screamed bloody murder."
The tarantula is described as being a three to four inch male.
After the initial shock, Hannah's father came to the rescue, using a pitcher to capture the spider.

Back in the day I came home with my 2 kids and there were 5 tarantulas in my bedroom. I killed them all by throwing shoes at them. I feel bad now, they aren’t bad.

Parents, label your cupboards! You know, “Plates, dishes, saucers,” “sponges, cleaning fluid,” “potato chips, tarantula.” It would save this needless anxiety.

I've caught many. I stick my hand out in front of them and eventually they'll walk right up into your hand.
Fun stuff if you don't suffer from arachnophobia.

Simple rule of being inside my house...
No legs, you die
Two legs uninvited, you will probably die
Four legs, depends on attitude but probably get released
More than four legs, you die
Outside the house it's live and let live; unless your attitude demands that you die.
Snake, spider, and other reptile/insect 'aficionados' may find this a little stern, but my house, my rules.

On one of my first camping trips many years ago in pitch-black darkness I climbed into my tent to prepare for sleep. I turned on the light that I had tied to the ceiling and the walls were covered with 2-3 inch spiders and all sorts of other creepy critters.
After I calmed down and got them out I realized my stupid mistake earlier in the day. I had left all of my stuff outside for most of the day (sleeping bag, duffle bags, etc), and had only put them in the tent an hour or so before retiring for the night. The little buggers used them like a trojan horse to get inside the tent.

Not really news. We lived in the tarantula migratory path in the San Jose hills (CA). Saw those guys all the time between Sept. and Dec. I had a peanut butter jar in my car and would scoop them off the road and take them to work. Some of my co-workers would not come into my office with my spider in there. They are really quite docile.

in other news, boy bitten by mosquito. film at 11.Are large tarantulas in the kitchen really that common place where you live? I live in New York City. All we have running around the house is an occasional mouse and a few roaches.

OK, I've had tarantulas crawl up my hands and arms, but NEVER as fast as that spider in the video.
What's it on? Meth?

They are reasonably common in many places out there that are basically desert. As are scorpions. I would be shocked by one here mid-Atlantic, but still not sure it should make FOX news!
