Back in the day I came home with my 2 kids and there were 5 tarantulas in my bedroom. I killed them all by throwing shoes at them. I feel bad now, they aren’t bad.
Yes, they're actually quite docile. I've caught many. I stick my hand out in front of them and eventually they'll walk right up into your hand.
Fun stuff if you don't suffer from arachnophobia.
On one of my first camping trips many years ago in pitch-black darkness I climbed into my tent to prepare for sleep. I turned on the light that I had tied to the ceiling and the walls were covered with 2-3 inch spiders and all sorts of other creepy critters.
After I calmed down and got them out I realized my stupid mistake earlier in the day. I had left all of my stuff outside for most of the day (sleeping bag, duffle bags, etc), and had only put them in the tent an hour or so before retiring for the night. The little buggers used them like a trojan horse to get inside the tent.
My brother has a pet one. She sleeps in a coconut shell. He feeds her crickets. He’s had her for many years. They can live to be quite old. I believe she is a Chilean Rose.
We used to have resident large wolf spider living in our house, he grew to be the size of a small tarantula. He was very peaceful and he kept the cricket population under control. We named him Wolfgang. He would occasionally startle me, but he was like a member of the family.
