It turns out the iPad was just too expensive after all

It seems that people love everything about Apple's tablet -- except the price.

One of the biggest complaints I've seen leveled against the iPad is that it was too expensive compared to other tablets, and that the high price was acting as a barrier to sales.

Turns out that was true.

The iPad is an interesting device. Once seen as possibly the successor to the iPhone, it's one of those devices that burned brightly, but burned itself out very quickly, going from launch to peak sales in under four years, and ever since it's been in steady decline.

In the email account you are using - tap “edit” up above the list of emails. That brings up a checkbox. Simply check off every email you want to delete, then just tap “trash” down at the bottom. I just deleted 71 emails that way.

I just spent an hour rehabbing some old iPads for kid use.

I think the marketing of iPads has been directed at the idea that you would upgrade frequently, when there really is no reason to.

I know about that way, it just take ages to delete hundreds since you can't do a “Select Many” like a PC - it's a major defect in their mail system.

Even 71 clicks to delete a group of emails is a pain in the b**t and poor software design....:^)

Es there are some limited use cases for them but for the average person the only real use case is media consumption.

When the only mainstream use case for the item is this, there is little justification for a premium brand there. Eventually the public figures out there is only one use case and the cheap guys do it just as well as the expensive guys.

Ergo, tablets are niche market items when it comes to justifying a premium brand for it.

Yes, but some of those niche markets make great use of portable tablets.

Aviation is one, with paper maps (sectional charts) being replaced by tablets. One example here -

I find the Apple/PC/Android debate to be the tech geeks version of Ford vs. Chevy with the exception that the zealousness involved seems to come primarily from the Apple side-always eager to defend Apple products or tout some 'revolutionary' feature. A recent headline linked on Fox News' website trumpeted "iPhone audio trick goes viral" Wow! Really?!! Turns out it appears the article is about using the audio EQ. So that's big Apple news? How about "Newest iPhone/iPad will Have an SD Card Slot" or Newest iPhone Will Have FM Radio". Now those would be Headlines!
