Microsoft is planning to add native eye tracking support into Windows 10. The new support is primarily designed to help those suffering from neuro-muscular diseases like ALS and other disabilities to control the various interface elements in Windows 10 without a traditional mouse and keyboard. This ranges from gazing at apps to launch them, or using an onscreen keyboard to glance at characters and type out words.
Dubbed Eye Control in Windows 10, the new feature will require hardware like Tobiis Eye Tracker 4C. Microsoft has worked closely with Tobii to enable this support, and existing devices like Tobii Dynavox PCEye Mini, PCEye Plus, EyeMobile Plus and I-series will all be supported soon. Eye Control in Windows 10 is in beta now, and participants will need to sign up to Microsofts Windows Insider program to get access.
Microsofts collaboration was triggered by the first Microsoft employee hackathon known as One Week back in 2014. A winning entry, inspired by former professional football player Steve Gleason, pushed Microsoft to form a new research team to investigate eye tracking. Microsofts Windows team built prototypes of eye tracking, and CEO Satya Nadella has now supported its integration directly into Windows 10. Its not clear exactly when this eye tracking support will be available broadly, but given Microsoft recently started working on its March Windows 10 update, wed expect to see eye tracking appear next year.

Yes, for disabled Users. It has nothing to do with any efforts to spy on anyone and upload their data to a giant data mine somewhere in the cloud.
Windows 10 will include built-in eye tracking support (for disabled Windows users)
for users of disabled Windows
Going to be a trick for users with tape over the camera lens lol
My Windows machine just updated itself to “Creator’s Edition.”
I don’t know exactly what the heck it did, but I have been getting deliveries of cat toys all day.
And I don’t have a cat.
That's the next delivery.
Oh, and a crazy cat lady comes with them. Yes, "them". 20 of them.
You'll need all those toys.
>>Oh, and a crazy cat lady comes with them. Yes, “them”. 20 of them.<<
OMG — I hope my current wife gets along with my ex-wife!
Had window machines since 95. Royal PITA. Have had iPhones since 2011 or so. I have just about replaced my windows machine with it.
If I buy another computer it will be a MAC. I use computers to do searches about non Computer related things, go to FR and other conservative sites. Email and text friends. Buy stuff on line. Learn about various and sundry things.
I could give a rats patoot about how they work. I just want them to do a job when I need them to.
right
I see you captured the Win10 design team in a spec’ing sessin :)
I take care of a lady with an advanced type of Parkinson’s. we got her a computer last year so she could use her eyes to type, etc. it is windows 10 based, with added software and cameras for the eye control. it cost $15000, so adding this to windows would be Wonderful for other people who need this ability, without having to wait months for approval by medicare, etc to get it
Aww, man. I don’t have a camera for my monitor.
Too bad.
Testing out some new Windows 10 spatial sound themes, no doubt.
I have a piece of blue 3M masking tape over my monitor camera.
That part was OK. It was when it insisted I build an interocitor (after the cat thing) that I began to get nervous.
