Jeanne Moreau, Legendary French Actress, Dies at 89
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | 7/31/2017 | THR staff

Jeanne Moreau, whose brooding beauty entranced international film audiences in such films as The Lovers, Jules et Jim and The Bride Wore Black, has died at the age of 89.

The French president's office announced her death without providing a cause.

Dubbed "Le Moreau" for her slithering sensuality, she was a femme fatale who was also one of the top stage actresses of her time. Off-screen, Moreau oozed romance and mystery: Moreau was likened to the free-spirited woman with two lovers whom she played in Francois Truffaut's "Jules et Jim. "

She burst to international stardom in Louis Malle's "The Lovers" (Les Amants) in 1958. The story of a woman who deserts her husband for a younger man, the story was controversial for the times and banned in some U.S. cities. Flaming her notorious image, Moreau next played in Roger Vadim's "Les Liaisons Dangereuses," which was also censored, but in France. It was briefly banned from export not for its sexuality but for its unflattering depiction of French diplomats.

I fell in love with Jeanne Moreau in 1965 after I saw her in "Viva Maria!". She was a lovely girl.

I liked her in DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID and ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS.

I saw her in several early ones. I believe she was in THE TRAIN with Burt Lancaster. Then I saw her and Brigitte in the English dubbed VIVA MARIA! Then in MONTE WALSH with Lee Marvin.
Even as she aged she was wonderful.

Did she live on an island? Because you know what that would mean.

I have seen her in lots of things. She was attractive, but not in an obvious way. I liked her in the films she did with Welles (The Trial, Chimes at Midnight, The Immortal Story) as well as Viva Maria!, The Train, Monte Walsh and The Bride Wore Black. Really one of the great actresses of her day.

I have seen her in 2 films. The Great Catherine and Monte Walsh. I only remember her role in the later. (I barely remember ‘Catherine’ )

I believe she performed it at least as well as Isabella Rossellini did in the made for TV remake. I liked both Monte Walsh movies for different reasons.

I’m only vaguely familiar with Mademoiselle Moreau. Was she more a Catherine Deneuve type or closer Juliette Binoche?

“Great actress. Sad loss. I’m getting old.”

Yesterday I saw that Cheryl Ladd (of Charlie’s Angels fame) had turned 66 earlier this month. Sixty-six! SIXTY-SIX! That was surprising enough as “I’m getting old” material, but then I discovered her daughter is about 42. That means her daughter is about 15 older than when her mother first appeared on Charlie’s Angels.

Yeah, I feel old.

I saw Cheryl Ladd in a TV movie she made about four years back. She wore tight white pants. For 60+ that was still some pretty darned good stuff there! ;)

closer to Juliette Binoche?

Mmmm...I'd say closer to Juliette. But sort of a mix.

Cheryl Ladd looks great. I don’t know how much of that is due to surgery (if any?), but 66 sure as heck does not look like what it used to when I was a kid.

She has always been beautiful. Described as conservative by some sources but maybe that is relative term when you are dealing with the entertainment crowd.

I am still remembering the 1970’s as yesterday.....
Charlie’s Angels was 40 years ago. 40!
I watch MEtv and other channels that show the 60’, 70’s tv shows so it seems I never have left. I am in the Twilight Zone.
