Some people don’t know that two dollar bills are real, so when Mike Bolesta used over 50 of them to make a purchase at a Best Buy store, an encounter with the police and Secret Service ensued.

“The cop is too stupid to be a cop.”

That’s impossible.

So I go to the hardware store to buy some shiny new nuts and bolts for a hobby project. The total is $2.23.
I give the the clerk a twenty and a quarter.
He has to pull out a calculator to figure out the change.

A few years ago, tried to cash a traveler’s check in a Subway in Fargo, ND. None of the staff had ever seen one. I had already filled everything in. They finally got permission to accept it after a call to a regional manager in St. Paul.

I should not have been surprised, most young adults say 16-22 or so do not know what a phone booth is.

When my Grandson was born, I gave his Mother a new Morgan silver dollar from 1887. I think it is worth around $20.

When my Granddaughter was born I gave her Mother a one dollar silver certificate. Unfortunately, it is worth a dollar. I do think the government should be forced to honor the pledge of exchanging it for silver.

It has to be BS.

There is no identifying information in the ‘video.’

No name, no place, no date, no time.....

Really pathetic. Back in the 90s I used to carry $2 bills and dollar coins. Frequently store clerks did not think it was real but never did anyone call the police or secret service!!!

A man trying to pay a fee using $2 bills was arrested, handcuffed and taken to jail after clerks at a Best Buy store questioned the currency’s legitimacy and called police.

According to an account in the Baltimore Sun, 57-year-old Mike Bolesta was shocked to find himself taken to the Baltimore County lockup in Cockeysville, Md., where he was handcuffed to a pole for three hours while the U.S. Secret Service was called to weigh in on the case.

You’ll need a pretty big suitcase if it is a new car.

I doubt if it is BS. I carry a few $2 bills in my wallet and showed them to a twenty-something at work not too long ago. She didn’t believe they were real.

Do they even still sell traveler’s checks these days? I remember a trip to Europe years ago when we finally found a department store that would cash them. Switched to ATM cards at the bank after that trip.

Years ago, after just coming back from some time in China, I was in a supermarket in Denver and tried to use a Traveler’s Check. The cashier asked for a picture ID. But at that time, NJ driver’s licences DIDN’T have a picture ID on them (they do now)

The cashier called the manager, and they were trying to figure how to clear me. Then I remembered an official university ID card I had while in China. I had been studying there for the summer and had an ID card with my picture — BUT — everything was written in Chinese characters!! However, since it had my pic — and it WAS me — they allowed the Travelers check to go through, after looking at the card and back at me several times! LOL! Love that story.

There may be a few banks that still sell them but there are not many. They have been pretty much been replaced by prepaid debit cards.
