Sorry I have to say this. But FR has become nearly unusable these days.
You used to have a feeling that within 30 seconds to a minute, your page would be resolved and loaded.
But no more. I don't know how many times lately, I have hit refresh or picked a new thread only to wait and wait and wait and then I give up and go to another site.
The powers that be recommend limiting your window options to twenty. My reply is, if that's the problem, the just taking the option away and making it twenty should be the solution.
And I know about DOS attacks - they can easily be filtered by a front-end server - so that shouldn't be a problem.
Anyways, whatever it is, it's getting series. And Hugh!

I like that explanation better. In that case you will get a handle on it. I wish you could identify him also but that doesn’t seem likely.
FR is loading extremely slow. The thread pages do not fully load, just the first few posts.
So, what I do is to click on what I want, then go catch up on other websites, and check back periodically.
So far, the thread pages never fully load. I respond to people responding to me by clicking on My Comments, and catch it there.
These are the same type of things that were occurring just prior to the last time when FR went down for days.
Yes and no. I have no problem with it now, loads pretty good but then there are those times that, well, you know esp. when I’m sitting at the gate waiting on my plane and the little circle keeps spinning to load FR and I have to jump up and get ready to take over and
That always makes the hundreds of us having endless problems feel better, just to hear that you are problem free. :)
It is a tragedy that I can’t come here as much and need to go to other places where we likemindeds are, but it’s not the same. Impossible in the evenings to post or read here. And none of the other sites beg for money and they work just fine. Frustrating because FR was always my favorite. It’s like a best friend dying. Clearly there is absolutely no correlation between donating and the site being reliable so I don’t see the point in donating. Which ALSO makes me sad. It didn’t have to go this way.

You make a good point, I noticed the FR home page is INSTANT even when the main script is dragging. But I’m sure it is probably isolated.
I almost started a thread earlier about this but it seems like me and maybe one other person are the only ones bringing attention to this then some snarky freeper gives me shit about it when all we are doing is trying to help.
I think the Robinson’s may have reached their expertise level and now need to hire a professional software company to configure this site. While they are at it; it would be a good time to update it to today’s standards with format options, ‘like’ buttons, and drop down menu’s.
I don’t begrudge the folks for making millions from this site over the last 20 years but now it’s time to pay back those who make this site great; us and spend the coin to update it. I get by on a ridiculously low amount of money, so low I’m embarrassed to say how much it is, so I know the owners can get by on the same amount or more for a while while this site is upgraded by spending the donation money on the site.
It would also be a good time to think about having a limited amount of ads to do away with the year round freepathons. There’s no shame in doing it the way everyone else does.
Clearly we need to pay more that 80$k a quarter /s
