I recommend that all FReepers who have not had a recent stress test have one performed.
I survived a heart attack in 2011 and have had twice-a-year follow up visits with my cardiologist. In May he scheduled me for a stress test as it had been years since I had one. He found anomalies in the display (lower blood supply to the heart muscle under stress than while at rest) and recommended a cardiac catheterization procedure. They found a new blockage and the old stent was blocked. They did the required repairs and I feel fine. God has been better to me than I deserve!
The doctor showed me that I already had it to some degree, which is one reason I survived the first attack. I was a semi-serious runner for quite a few years (age group awards, mostly), and marathon training apparently increased the circulation to my heart.
That's what I was going for! I plan to address my co-workers at next weeks meeting and make the same suggestion. I've already been on my two sons' cases about it, too.
My cardiologist told me that stenting tends to cause these collateral vessels to regress.
I have a nice one in my village.
The point being, do not put a man under a stress test that hasn’t done a damn physical thing for 15 years.
My Dad was FAA and had no exertion of energy for some time.
He was very smart but that cannot carry you. He was old school. Died in the 70’s.
True, that!
Have been getting a cardiogram and stress test once a year - couple weeks ago had a hybrid - cardio followed immediately by a stress test followed immediately by another cardio - lots of fun - but the doc decided he had me on too much BP medication which was limiting the amount my heart rate could climb when needed and reduced one of the meds by half - worth the trouble...
“cardiogram” = “echocardiogram”....
What’s really nice is when they catch early enough so they don’t have to open your chest.
I’m confused now. I am a 62 year old runner and requested a stress test from my doctor. She said a calcium scoring test is more effective, so I had it done and it came back perfect, but my doctor also said my ldl is very high. I wonder why she would recommend the scoring test over the stress test.
Here’s one opinion which seems to agree with your doctor:
A full body scan will hit you with most of your entire life’s dose of radiation. I would not recommend it.
Thank you! Most insurance companies will not pay fof calcium scoring...isn’t that amazing?
A big ol' AMEN to that!
I’ve been the same way since my findings. ;D Take care my friend! And thank you so much for your post.
