Over 30 And Single? Are Your Standards Too High?
Huffington Post UK ^ | 07/12/2017 | Kenty Lichtenberg

The film industry has messed with our relationship perceptions, would you agree? We are constantly expecting to have the perfect, fairy tale relationship - like Hollywood ruined real life relationships didn’t it? We expect to have Chuck and Blair or Allie and Noah love story. But nothing is further from that truth.

We love to imagine that you will traditionally fall in love or that you’ll randomly meet your perfect “other half” in the back of a limo. Sure enough, you will encounter your peak and low moments, but in essence you dream of finding that special soul mate you are supposed to be with, right? We should be able to find our soul mate and have our own fairy tale. Unfortunately, when we look around, even for celebrities, that’s not how real life works because we simply do not exist in a movie/novel/episode, although I am pretty sure we would love that!

Often times you would hear men complain and vent that the women of today are too demanding and that everything revolves around them. We don’t date certain guys because we’re afraid they aren’t our type, and their usual question following this statement is: but how do you know what your type is before you’ve even been on a real date? As a teenager I guess it was acceptable to make a list of the traits that your ideal guy should have, but now as an adult women, we must learn to be less judgmental and more objective...

A woman past thirty can still bear children; it is the single women over fifty I see settling for anyone who can shovel their cars out of the snow...

I have never seen a white woman with an Asian man...ever.

I know at least three families with a Filipino husband and a white American wife.

I’m sure they exist; I’ve just never seen them (and we have a LOT of Filipinos in my area). Unless they are very traditional white women, I’d think that is a big culture shock for both.

They’re my age, 50 +/-, so probably more “traditional” than the subjects of the article.

That surprises me because I’d think the husbands are more traditional.

I guess I would expect Asian/American pairings in a place like San Francisco, where the Chinese have been there for so long (many have no accents at all, and they are really completely integrated in the society/culture). It is first place I ever saw a Chinese cop.

Those aren’t standards (ex: good character). They are prejudices (ex: no lower income earners).

which is a woman who comes from a culture where divorce is looked at as failure by friends and family, rather than an enrichment scheme.

You only get that in countries where the laws are such that divorce does not turn into "cash and prizes" for the woman. If you brought that foreign spouse into the US, that would change. Immediately. Women ALL OVER want to maximize their security.

Women appreciate their men the most, in countries where security for a woman comes ONLY from having a man willing to take care of her.

My family lived in San Diego from 1970 to 1975. There were Filipino families in our neighborhood and school then who were second-generation. Thus, I think there are a certain number of people of Filipino heritage who are pretty much like us.

There was a spurious article about one of the famous advice columnists, maybe Abby, who was talking to the rather plain wife of a billionaire. When asked how she kept her husband from straying or looking for “trophy wives”, the wife said “I swallow”.

It's really that simple. A wife doesn't have to be beautiful if she's making an effort to keep her husband sexually satisfied. Conversely, no matter how beautiful she is, if she's never in the mood, then hubbie is much more likely to look for a replacement.

“If you brought that foreign spouse into the US, that would change. Immediately. Women ALL OVER want to maximize their security.”

Not true in my case...wife has many siblings who have been in the country for decades (with several also married to gringos), not a single divorce, or even talk of it.

Women are sooooo yesterday. Bring on the sexbots! The biggest benefit is when you’re done with them you just unplug ‘em!

"Not a single man has visited the fourth floor."

I must have slipped past the security cam ... I went to the fourth floor, and let me tell you what you find there:

Women that love sex, are wealthy, have large breasts, and own a brewery.

I don't know what's on the fifth floor ...

Seriously? The author stated ‘What if that tipsy man from that get together last weekend was “the one”?’

And of course the right answer was missing: Abstinence.

Instead, she is encouraging women to go to bars for drunken sex while also looking for ‘mr right’. Great job lady. Secondly, I don’t see a lot of women waiting for prince charming. If they are 30 and single, it more than likely for following the liberal ideology.
