Photobucket pulls third party hosting/linking
N/A

Posted on 07/07/2017 1:44:14 PM PDT by CodeJockey

Looks like Photobucket is pulling its third party hosting/linking service unless you opt for a premium plan... at $400/ year.

I had an email this morning saying such. So much for their "free" service.

Have not tried, but I assume I still have access to my photos. Never did put much up there, just an occasional photo that I could not link to for various reasons.

I don't believe the graphics are lost. It wasn't my photobucket site. I don't have an account. I was just linking to someone else's photo that I found during an online search.

This is what shows up in my comment from last night:

It seems they are limiting the bandwidth on sharing a photo. I can link a photo from my account. If it gets shared and linked then they stop it. I noticed that PB did that to a FReeper who has a ping list and uses a photo on the ping. Now it says he’s used up his bandwidth.

There are more sites out there than PB.

My bad! I read their new terms and they not letting anyone who’s not a paid user to third party host. But, yikes! Four hundred a year? I predict they will fail.

This is the email. Others have received one too.

WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING* PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN. Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level. UPGRADE NOW

Then the regular upgrade pitch stuff. I'll have to go back and see if some of my old posts still link.

I'm not going to start on a new site. HOWEVER, in case photobucket is going to fold, I'd hate to see this image disappear so anyuone one who wants to keep it alive, feel free.

Going with Google for now. One thing I am doing is setting up all my folders on my computer just in case they pull the same thing later on. (Mirror Image)

The problem I have now is, because I didn’t do that earlier, I have to download all my stuff from Photobucket. They have a “Download Album” button but it hasn’t worked for me, but I can download one at a time - about 300 photos.

Any good alternatives out there?

I have a lot of images saved at Photobucket. Now that they've changed their business model, I'm going to move them all to a hidden page on my website. I'm not interested in moving them all to another 'free' hosting site, just to have them change their policy too.

Well, it does cost money to keep such a site running - we have FReepathons every quarter for the same reason.

Some folks act like it's a free gift because that's the way they're made; other dig in and help pay to keep it running.

If we like something , we should all do the right thing...

Donate to FR

Disclaimer: Not accusing you of not donating - ran into a couple natural leeches who proudly strut that they are her and we pay for them so will be lacing my posts with lots of 'reminders". that we have a huge number of deadbeat FReeloaders here.

Check out Fotki. Their home page has a “welcome Photobucket refugees” type message right now.

Linking from Photobucket or to Photobucket? Are you linking photos to Photobucket from other sites or linking your Photobucket photos elsewhere?
