WATCH: Elk Calf Chases Swedish Golfer
The Local (Sweden) ^ | 30 June 2017

Posted on 07/02/2017 3:56:22 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Things you don't expect to happen on the golf course. Christer Sjögren had an unusual experience on Karlstad golf course when instead of an eagle or a birdie, he ran into an elk calf. When the young elk started chasing him, he ran, all while his friends laughed at him.

His friend Tony Swahn, who shot the video, told The Local it had gone viral in Sweden. "It has really spread," he said.

Sweden has seen violent elk attacks in the past, however in this case everything worked out well in the end, after the young animal slowly walked off upon discovering nobody wanted to play.

Q: How fast do you have to run to get away from an alligator?

A: Faster than the other guy

Good thing momma was not around. She would stomped the golfer into the green. Around here I give moose with calves a wide berth. A local got messed up here a couple of years ago.

A moose calf is no joke. A single hit from a hoof can kill you.

Three different elk remain in North America: the Roosevelt, the Tule, and the Rocky Mountain.

In Norway and Sweden those are called Elk. More specifically elg in Norwegian and älg in Swedish.

They call moose elk in Europe and “British” English. They have no elk there.

Elk only live in North America and Southeast Asia.

I’ve seen Rocky Mountain Elk while golfing up in the mountains, and those creatures are HUGE! Hit one over there where they are, and just write that one off. No way am I going near them!

CA....

That’s not an elk calf; it’s a moose calf. They are very different from each other.

I agree.

This is a moose. An elk looks like a big deer with a pointy nose. This animal has a nose only a moose mother could love.

However, several other articles at thelocal.se all call this creature an elk. Wiki says this is British English. But, how do they verbally distinguish between the two?

BTW, the man had reason to be concerned. More people are killed in Alaska by moose than by bear. I assume Swedish moose/elk are just as ill tempered as Alaskan ones. The young one in this video obviously isn’t being friendly.

The antlers are huge. You wanna see a big elk, go look at the Roosevelt. A good bull will go 1200 pounds. Big as a horse and fast.
