I share pictures with relatives, generally groups of pictures for events. You can create a public album for a single picture image, and share the link to anyone.
Nevermind... I had setup a dayglored iCloud account but not associated a device to it yet. d-uh.
Anyway, question still stands, does Apple allow you to hot-link to the images in your iCloud photos storage, from arbitrary web pages?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that since they allow you to share it on the web to the public at large, yes. Did I see anything from Apple expressly allowing this, no.
One drawback - I don't see how you can hot-link to an individual image, without it being part of an album (although a single image to an album is fine). Additionally, the linked album displays the iCloud owner name. You may or may not be able to change that, probably not as the owner name is linked to a payment method and requires a real name. If you seek to share links anonymously, then this is not good for public at large consumption. I share these links with relatives and friends who know my real name.
So, your answer is no, not good for general hot-linking to the public (unless you don't mind advertising your real name). How to do it: in Photos, set up a shared iCloud album, open it, and click on the "people" tab (silhouette of head & shoulders in a circle icon), and check "public website". Copy the link and post it to whoever.
I had not explored this before, but found how to get around the public website displaying your real name attached to your iCloud account. Duh, go to your account and edit your name. You can change it to whatever you want. The new "fake" name will then be displayed on new shared public website links on iCloud, and you can be somewhat anonymous. I went ahead and changed mine, now relatives will scratch their head wondering who sent them pics until I tell them it's me.
Yep that's one way. I chose to create an entirely separate account in the name "dayglored". Now I just have to designate one of my iDevices to be the one that associates with that account rather than my real personal one; then I'll have the "Photos" area to play with.
In the meantime I'm also exploring the "TinyPic" site Swordmaker mentioned that he uses.
And seeing what I can do to make an anonymous site on one of my Amazon servers. Probably have to do it with an IP address rather than a domain name, since registering a domain name publicizes my real name... unless I fork over more money to the registrar to privatize it... ah, the price of anonymity. :-)
My first computer was a Mac Plus, then I upgraded to a Mac Classic. Later I had a used IIfx, and a Mac Performa. All of them served me well, but then I got a job that required me to have a Windows machine, so I bought a Dell and “used” it for a pain filled, exasperating, and tedious year. I lost count of the times it crashed, overheated, of just stubbornly refused to boot. Ultimately, I junked it, got an iMac in 2009, which I am still using now. You might be able to pay me to keep a PC in the house, but I will just use it for fun. They are useless for serious work.
Here’s who - someone that has used and enjoyed/understood Windows up to and including Windows 7 (which he still likes). Someone that buys a Windows laptop with 8.2 on it, hates it, and 6 months later, buys a MacBook Pro!
Moves up to 10 on the laptop, but too late - has grown to like the Mac interface. Still has the desktop with Win 7 though, as it is a logical operating system, not a playskool makeover.
How can they charge you 20 to watch dvds? Don’t you just stick them in the player?
I have and love WIN7 My bitty computer is an 8 or 9 or something.
I have startpage on my tray and stopped bing.
With a notable exception being the recent patch due to ransomeware, Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft. So, I’m guessing when your computer does die it’s more likely to be bugaboos than hardware. But I wish you luck either way my friend!
Keep all important files (and a huge music collection) backed up on external drive that is only connected for doing backups and is disconnected/off the rest of the time. Also have a Win10 laptop that has copies of all said files so even if the Win7 machine falls prey, it will be more inconvenience than anything else.
