The ChiComs have their own process for this kind of infraction:

“Anybody who’s spent any time on a Chinese domestic airline knows the pure INSANITY on display.”

When my wife and I moved back to SF in 1980 we stayed at the In-laws house for a short time. They were going on an extended trip back to China (they're Chinese). They offered to take us along all expenses paid. We declined as I needed to find a job and we needed to look for our own place. I secretly thought they were looking for 2 more porters to increase their luggage capacity on their Marco Polo trip across China.

When they got back my father-in-law talked about flying inside China on domestic airlines. Quite interesting and a rolling cluster f***.
For example, when making the final approach to an airport along a river they flew NOE (nap of earth) below the level of local smokestacks at about 10 ft. and popping up at the last second to quickly drop onto the runway . The captain as apparently was a former PLAAF mig pilot.

Connecting flight scheduling was basically just a suggestion. The airline employees in the terminal were worthless.

When a plane came in at smaller airport you had to run out of the terminal and get the pilots attention and shout at him where he came from and was he going to the city you needed.

“Hey hello you going to Chengdu?”
“No Wuhan”
“Any planes coming in going to Chengdu?
“Don't know,maybe later”
“How much later?”
“Maybe 4 hours or tomorrow,sorry”

This was repeated till you found the right plane then you had to get back to the terminal and get a seat reserved. The delays could be substantial. Don't know if has improved. Quite a system.

No, you give the Flight Attendant a goose.

I can never keep straight which to observe, proper etiquette or local customs.

I got to say When I was in Communist China was really surprised by some things ..it just really didn’t seem like a Communist country

Thing that surprised me most is when I was in the airport in Guangzhou...

I saw a Chinese passenger wearing a Flying Tigers jacket with the blood chit on the back that has the nationalist Chinese flag

I thought the nationalist Chinese bag was strictly verboten in Communist China but it was a non issue

One of my early trips on China’s airlines,in the early 80s, was interesting when the pilot announced we were coming in for a landing. You could feel the plane lowering, and all the Chinese aboard immediately got out of their seats to get their stuff from the overhead luggage compartment, and line up to get off the plane. Meanwhile the plane was still in the air.

I guess they don’t use jetways but walk across the tarmac to the plane.

Hadn’t seen “cattle car” used in a post in quite awhile. :)
I think Continental Airlines was the original cattle car - that was way back when I wasn’t used to having a seat back resting next to my forehead in-flight. Technically, I don’t have claustrophobia, or didn’t until that flight.

Two years ago, I left Beijing for the US on a 747. As soon as the 747 started to roll on takeoff at full throttle, a Chinese lady across the aisle stood up and started to open the baggage bins. The attendants and everybody were yelling at her to “Sit DOWN !!!”. She acted completely clueless.

13 hours later, when we landed in Chicongo, the wheels touched down and the thrust reversers weren’t even engaged and she stood up AGAIN trying to get her luggage.

Later, at the baggage claim, she came up beside me speaking PERFECT ENGLISH like she was born in the US. Crazy.

To be fair, the woman in that photo was convicted of killing her husband. Brutal? Yes. They have a very quick system of justice.

When I was there in 2015, the son of a local millionaire executive was convicted of murdering a girl he’d hit with his Porsche. He ran her down while drunk, but she survived. Thanks to the millions of cameras they’ve got spying on everybody, they captured him loading her into a trunk and taking her to a field where he killed her with a rock.

Two weeks later, executed, just like the lady in your photo. His father’s only public reaction was to sue the prosecutor for defaming his family.

China is a Wild West Show.
