But when your trip is delayed because a fellow passenger has done something really, really stupid, theyre even worse.
Thats what happened on Tuesday in China, where a plane was grounded for several hours because an elderly woman threw coins into one of its engines. The 80-year-old, whose surname is Qiu, police said, told officers she did it for good luck.
Officials said she threw nine coins at an engine of China Southern Airlines flight CZ380 as she was boarding at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Eventually they were all accounted for
The flight was grounded for hours (Picture: AsiaWire) As a result, nearly 150 passengers had to be escorted off the aircraft bound for Guangzhou in southern China.
Even more frustratingly for the other passengers, her aim was terrible eight of the nine coins missing the target, but the other nestled in the engine. In a statement posted on Weibo, China Southern Airlines said: A senior passenger threw coins to the planes engine and delayed the flight. The passenger involved has been taken away by police.
As soon as I saw the headline, I knew this had to be in China.
80 years old, and she could throw nine coins into a jet engine from the tarmac?
The Yankee scouts are coming to sign her up.
Maybe she just wanted to hear them go Boeing, Boeing, Boeing, Boeing when they fired them up.
No, you give the Flight Attendant a goose.
Sorry. Couldn’t resist.
Maybe she threw them from a hundred feet away. If so, my SF Giants are probably scouting her for their bullpen. On second thought, if she missed with a bunch of the coins, they’ve got that covered.
I wish there were coins that would disable the deep bass booming in passing cars.
I’m tellin ya, look at those Yap coins.
Pull one of those out of your jeans pocket and I guarantee the kid will run off the road.
You have the best reply so far. LOL!
It didn’t work.
I know this is China but this brings up a question I always ask: Why cannot passengers sue for their time and trouble when a passenger acts irresponsibly and as a result gets a flight delayed or cancelled?
Has anyone ever tried?
Ping.
I took one from Bejing to Chendu in 1997. People brought aboard live chickens and more. Incredible sight!
Sometimes it's called the Chinese Almanac.
Leaving coins around is meant to bring good fortune in making money. If you move to a new house, for example, you're supposed to leave coins laying around the floors. It's feng shui and astrology.
Reminds me of a very old National Enquirer article: shows a man cheerfully waving his stumps over the caption, “Man sucked through roaring jet engine, yet he lives!”
“Main stim stop walwe.”
I wish I could sue the airlines or any other entity for running late. The penalties for anyone being late with anything should be draconian enough to shock the Chinese, Saudis or ancient Romans.
