D.C.'s initiatives focus on improving how the District, businesses and residents manage what rats love: all that delicious trash.

WASHINGTON — Warmer winters apparently have been great for D.C.’s rat community, and District officials hope to change that.

Mayor Muriel Bowser outlined initiatives Thursday to reduce the rat population, which is believed to have increased in the last few years. According to officials, the number of rodent-abatement requests increased last year by 65 percent — from 2,300 in 2015 to more than 3,500 in 2016.

The Libs want you to capture those cute critters alive and release them outside the city.

DC Police have done this for years. They capture the ‘homeless’ and drop them off in Maryland and Virginia.

Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him

Rats has been a problem in the DC area for about 20 years.

My daughter and I walked into our garage one day and a black rat ran out after munching on spilled grass seed. My daughter was in kindergarten but yelled out “A black rat! The plague!!”

How in the heck she knew this I’ll never know. But it was a hoot.

The worst rat problem I ever saw was in Japanese food markets. Rats all over the place. Didn’t buy anything.

The Rat problem in DC is humongous. It’s not just the local Rats but the ones voted in to both houses from outside of DC. You can get rid of all the DC Rats but they would just have there old territory invaded by suburban Rats from Maryland. Your best solution to the DC Rat problem is poison.
It’s going to take a very potent type of poison to get rid of these Rats. From past experience the best Rat poison that I know of is Acme T & L No.1.
Yes, Truth and Light will get rid of any any Rat. They absolutely cannot stand up to the Truth. And, the minute you shine the Light on them they’ll shrivel up and blow away.

RATS CANNOT STAND THE TRUTH OR THE LIGHT. Problem solved.

When I was in college in the 70s I was waiting for a DC bus on Monroe Street near Catholic University. Walking out of a drainage pipe right next to the bus stop was a rat. I could have sworn he looked up at me, shrugged his shoulders, and sauntered off the sidewalk, continuing on his way across the street.

... about 20 years.

I'm laying the blame on the Carter Administration. I'm guessing Jimmy listened to his idiot daughter, and stopped the use of rat poison in the WH.

That set a trend.

Heck, I'll even guess that Uncle Billy was smart enough to turn his beer cans into rat traps, safely and appropriately.

Reminds me of ‘possums in Texas. “What are you going to do about it, eh?”

My neighbor, who was a Texas Highway Patrol officer, would shoot them out of the trees in our apartment complex with his silenced pistol. He had no idea where those dead ‘possums came from. Do you?

There was a story a few months back that municipalities were having tremendous success killing rats by making dry ice, releasing it into the pipes and closing up the exits. The dry ice would suck all the oxygen out of the area and suffocate the rats to death.

BUT the EPA was trying to stop this because they were unsure of the environmental impact and animal rights groups were opposing this based on animal cruelty.

“What DC is doing to curb their rat problem”?

I would assume that if you are walking Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Bill Maher, etc. and they need to go potty, that under the law, you must curb them.

The rat problem, always present in DC for decades, was dealt with in a new law in 2012 from the DC council, and it was an issue for then VA Gov. Ken Cuccinelli, who was well informed that the rodents were being dumped in N. VA. (they later morphed into demonrat voters who put Mcaulliffe in office— LOL, a joke).

The “Wildlife Protection Act of 2010”-is “crazier than fiction” because it required that rats and other vermin not be killed but captured, preferably in families; no glue or snap traps can be utilized; the rodents must be relocated from where they are captured; and some of these animals may need to be transferred to a “wildlife rehabilitator” as part of their relocation process. Honest to God. A quote from Ken Cuccinelli from back in 2012.

Can one imagine- requiring not killing the disease bearing pests which carry plague and rabies (just a few)— relocating them like they were, say a black bear.
Needless to say the population is now out of control— because they have not been destroyed— which can be done through non-corrupt inspectors of businesses and tight pest control laws— that require destruction of the pests and disposal (burn them up after poison). The poison method no doubt bothers the libs with cats or dogs that might eat the rat poison. Ridiculous to relocate.

Heres’ the article from Jan. 2012 (5 years is a long time to allow rodents to replicate): http://nation.foxnews.com/rat-infestation/2012/01/16/dc-law-forces-exterminators-relocate-rats
