Actually, the guy was walking away from the woman. It was his crazy girlfriend who came charging out with fists swinging. He made a half-hearted attempt to stop her, or at least pull her away, but my guess is that he knew better from past experience than to interfere with her, lest he become the victim of her crazed anger.
