Flog him around the fleet.

Instead, he’ll probably get lifetime benefits for PTSD. A petty officer probably looked at him ‘mean’.

I don't comprehend why someone would do that unless he is mentally ill. In my Navy career I spent time om 3 different ships, two of them for reserve cruises. On one of those the morale was so bad I asked lieutenant in charge of my division what was wrong with this ship. He took a piece of my note paper and wrote on it, "XO." I didn't speak to one sailor there who contemplated life sans Navy in his immediate future.

In my two weeks there I don't recall ever talking to the XO but well knew that the XO makes or breaks a ship.

I was a sonar tech. My ships screened for carriers when we weren't showing the flag on solo runs. In one 18 month period we screened for the USS Roosevelt (CV 42) and the USS Saratoga (CV 60).

In my 20 months on one destroyer we witnessed two plane disasters and were tasked with the job of finding plane wreckage and two dead pilots.

We found a tiny bit of wreckage of one plane and no pilots.

Sometimes I think the odds of finding dead sailors after disasters takes us to the miracle realm.

If this guy isn't a candidate for a mental ward, he really needs to spend some time in a federal prison to contemplate what he put his own shipmates through.

For those like myself who are not familiar with the term frocked used in the article:

In the United States military, frocking is the practice of a commissioned or non-commissioned officer selected for promotion wearing the insignia of the higher grade before the official date of promotion (the "date of rank"). An officer who has been selected for promotion may be authorized to "frock" to the next grade.

So being frocked is a good thing. I wonder now then, why he hid as he did.Something strange going on here for sure.

I once passed out in an unused rack not my own after a night of drinking and slept through my sub leaving port. Missed my duty station during the departure. They figured I went AWOL. I finally woke up and stumbled out of the rack. They freaked out at me a little.

It’s a shame that so much time, effort and expense was made looking for this guy. On the other hand, maybe he was just trying to avoid attending the latest transgender sensitivity training seminar.

Rear Adm. Charles Williams said. “I am relieved that this Sailor’s family will not be joining the ranks of Gold Star Families that have sacrificed so much for our country.”

Definite double entendre.

survived a week in the engineering space or where he was hiding.

Malingering and dereliction on the high seas while his shipmates where conducting search and rescue operations for him?

Keelhaul him.
