In his testimony Thursday, former FBI Director James Comey's statement about leaking information of private conversations he had with President Donald Trump revealed the special counsel investigation led by Robert Mueller was "poisoned fruit," stated former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Comey admitted he leaked the information as part of the FBI's probe into Russia's involvement in U.S. elections and the connections of the president's former national security adviser Michael Flynn with Russian officials.
"I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter didn't do it myself for a variety of reasons but I asked him to, because I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel," Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Gingrich called this "the most startling revelation" from the day's testimony, as it was a "barefaced admission" of his intent to leak the documents in hopes a special counsel would be appointed to investigate the charges.
"This statement is tremendously important because it completely delegitimizes Robert Mueller's so-called independent investigation and reveals it as poisoned fruit," Gingrich wrote in his weekly newsletter on Friday.

Sessions has been a disappointment in that he is neither proactive, combative or effective. Since being in his post his greatest accomplishment is breathing.
Comey certainly tainted any evidence for the investigation where actually no credible evidence exists.
Mueller has to prosecute Comey, that is the only way Mueller can continue his investigation
I heard Lou Dobbs say the investigators couldn’t investigate because the investigators were the ones doing the crimes. That took comey’s testimony to finally hear someone say the intelligence dept is corrupt.. it was corrupted by hillary and obama... loretta lynch did what hillary wanted and they all did what obama wanted.. all are corrupt.. and that’s what we have been saying about draining the swamp.
Has Sessions recused himself from EVERYTHING? All the swamp dwellers are still swaggering around DC, lieing their souls to a clinker, doing all sorts of seditious things with reckless abandon. And the DOJ has apparently Gone Fishin’ or something.

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions has brought sweeping change to the Department of Justice.
In just two months as the nations top cop, Sessions has moved quickly to overhaul the policies and priorities set by the Obama administration....”
I had my doubts also...he was part of the DC Swamp for a long time.
Now, I second your emotion. And, to boot, I think Comey irreparably tainted him by his (Comey's) admissions under oath.
Plus, we've learned since that Comey is a long-time friend of Mueller.

“This statement is tremendously important because it completely delegitimizes Robert Mueller’s so-called independent investigation and reveals it as poisoned fruit,”
Comey’s testimony should have voided Mueller’s appointment automatically.
Absolutely.
Thanks, Leni.
If the Dems retake the House, it is over. Trump will already be a lame-duck. The Dems would rather have gridlock than to let Trump's agenda take fruit.
The Democrats control nothing in Washington or in the majority of the states. Yet, they are out there fighting tooth and nail and controlling the agenda as if the Republicans don't exist. I'm telling you folks - now is the perfect time to buy goods, guns, and supplies and start buying land out in the country. Because this country's problems aren't going to be solved by continuing to vote for Republicans.
President Trump appointed Senator Session as Attorney General and I assume he knew what he was doing. As to the Recusal, as you no doubt know, that was neither a foolish or a voluntary act. It was an action required by law.
Some folks seem to think the Attorney General is a free agent who can do whatever he wants, including throwing people in jail at will. We went through eight years with a corrupt Justice Department and I am thankful we now have a person of integrity cleaning up the mess. It will take a while, but it needs to be done right.
His historical novels are awesome. Read Valley Forge.
A Special Council precludes that a crime has been committed.
Agree w/your excerpt quoted in #2.
Newt nailed it.
It’s trump train facing the resistance railroad
"So, what we have here is a fired FBI director, who leaked private material to the press, so he could get his friend appointed as a special counsel in order to take retribution on the President with the aid of a department full of federal lawyers who would have rather seen Hillary in the White House. And we are supposed to believe this will be an objective, unbiased investigation?" Gingrich wrote.
Newt is right about this. And, combined with this (below) from the May 17th edition of The New Yorker, I can only say that I hope our President has enough loyalists watching his back:
Rod Rosensteins decision is an important indication of the shifting mood in Washington: his appointment of Robert Mueller was an act of self-protection. A career prosecutor who was criticized for lending his voice to the firing of the former F.B.I. director James Comey, Rosenstein has chosen to hand off the Russia investigation, rejecting Republican leaders repeated statements that such a move was unnecessary
I can’t think of a better name for Gungrich than poisoned fruit.
Sessions was a senator and just like all of them think the Dems are their friends and they should be nice to them. They never learn.
It takes time to prepare for major actions in the DOJ. I suspect Sessions has a number of good cases in process. And don’t forget most of the career attorneys are democrats having donated to Hilary in huge numbers. He has a tough job but he can handle it.
Thank you for the article Mr. kanawa. We needed some balance to the oft repeated chorus of “I’m disappointed in Sessions” that we hear in the forum.
