Gingrich: Mueller Investigation 'Poisoned Fruit' After Comey Testimony

In his testimony Thursday, former FBI Director James Comey's statement about leaking information of private conversations he had with President Donald Trump revealed the special counsel investigation led by Robert Mueller was "poisoned fruit," stated former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Comey admitted he leaked the information as part of the FBI's probe into Russia's involvement in U.S. elections and the connections of the president's former national security adviser Michael Flynn with Russian officials.

"I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter – didn't do it myself for a variety of reasons – but I asked him to, because I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel," Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Gingrich called this "the most startling revelation" from the day's testimony, as it was a "barefaced admission" of his intent to leak the documents in hopes a special counsel would be appointed to investigate the charges.

"This statement is tremendously important because it completely delegitimizes Robert Mueller's so-called independent investigation and reveals it as poisoned fruit," Gingrich wrote in his weekly newsletter on Friday.

Gingrich also pointed out that Comey and Mueller, also a former FBI chief, were "very close" and that 97 percent of donations from Department of Justice employees who contributed to the 2016 presidential election were in support of former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.~~~~~~~~~~~~Surprised anyone?

"So, what we have here is a fired FBI director, who leaked private material to the press, so he could get his friend appointed as a special counsel in order to take retribution on the President – with the aid of a department full of federal lawyers who would have rather seen Hillary in the White House. And we are supposed to believe this will be an objective, unbiased investigation?" Gingrich wrote.~~~~~~~~~~~~Gingrich has nailed it on the head. Hopefully, there are enough honest Republicans to shut Mueller's investigation down...

No, I’m not surprised but am still miffed at Jeff Sessions for being putty in their hands. He shouldn’t have recused himself - he did nothing wrong. I’m just not sure he has the spine for the job as AG. I hope he proves me wrong, but, so far, I’m not impressed.

I’ve said that here on FR, shortly after the testimony. He and the Swamp Party set this up with leaks to get Mueller in place. DOJ should fire the weasel and appoint a bird dog that will dig deep into all of the evil shenanigans of the deep staters. I emailed the WH to this effect.

I’ve been concerned since Mueller was first mentioned. I’m not surprised.

No....Sessions did the right thing. He did not want to play Comey’s game and that was the way to go. You’ll see.

I believe that has been proven by the ease the Democrats neutered and neutralized him.

Whose side are you people complaining about Jeff Sessions on? Throughout the campaign, and through the horrific confirmation process, AG Sessions was about the only person 100% loyal to President Trump. For those who followed the campaign closely, it's obvious that President Trump was a better candidate and he's a better leader with Jeff Sessions mentoring him on the conservative values Trump promised to govern by.

Jeff Sessions was correct to recuse himself. He'll go to his hearing, then get back to work. That's much better than getting sucked up in bogus committee hearings that could go on forever.

Exactly. McTrutle Mcconnell face—a wimp. Lyin’ Ryan—a gutless panzy. Sessions may be a great guy, but he seems to not have a backbone. Lynch and Holder were corrupt bastards, but that had iron backbones and never buckled. Sessions buckled before he was even sworn in. The stupid party always allows the evil party under their skin.

DJT needs to say he is considering firing Mueller and appointing Vladimir Putin as Special Council.

Maybe do it as a hot mic gag.

Who’s this Sessions? Does he have a job in Washington? This BS could have been averted from day one had an AG with a pair impaneled a grand jury to go after the felons in the Clinton/Obama axis. These traitorous rats and deep staters would have been too busy trying to stay out jail to begin the witch hunt. Isn’t this what we were led to believe was going to happen? Until the Trump administration gets serious about going on the offensive this crap will continue and Lord knows where it will end.
Every one laughs off impeachment the same way we would have laughed off the prospect of a special counsel on January 21.

Agree.

Sessions needs a backbone, I'm very disappointed in him.

“leak the documents in hopes a special counsel would be appointed”

Notice that the democrats, the DNC, started yelling for a special counsel immediately. The msm also lined up. Message: “a special counsel should be called”

This is similar to when Lynch had Comey take part in the election with respect to the messaging for the DNC and the msm regarding Clinton’s emails and server. Message: “it is just a matter” “a security review”
