As a business, it is failing, said CEO of the American Cable Association (ACA), Matthew Polka, during an episode of C-SPAN Communicators this week. It is very, very difficult for a cable operator in many cases to even break even on the cable side of the business, which is why broadband is so important, giving consumers more of a choice that we cant give them on cable.

My husband was wondering if you are able to watch NFL at all?
Ditto from the woods of northern Michigan where the best cell phone service we can get is Verizon and it isn't good. Red fox bounding in the woods across from us on our road. More snowmobiles and atvs than actual vehicles here.
I don't miss cable one tiny bit.
Pay for all those sports channels? Some folks may, but I don’t.
Streaming.
It’s for those who want choices.
The thing I hated most about cable was paying a huge monthly fee to watch a bunch of commercials. I’m tolerant of commercials embedded in youtube videos because:
1) youtube videos are free
2) not all youtube videos even have commercials
3) the commericals that are embedded in youtube videos are usually just a single commercial and then back to the video (not a barrage of 50 commercials in a row like on cable news shows) and often come with a skip-choice after 5 seconds

That was almost the entire premise for getting people to pay for TV - no commercials. That was quickly breached within a couple of years with a smattering of commercials. Now it is standard practice for cable/satellite programing to run 4-7 minutes of commercials all packed at once and then do this repeatedly throughout the program.
I seriously cannot stand to watch TV.
Question I can’t seem to find the answer to on all these boxes. Are they wireless or hard wired to wifi?
Thanks in advance.
The irony is that for years we begged cable companies to allow or congress to compel a la cart offerings to no avail. I mean they didn’t even respond to our pleas as far as I remember.
It's the same content, just delivered a different way.
HDMI cable to TV, the box works off your home WIFI.
Search SkyStream One @ Amazon
I know how they hook up to the tv. Is The wifi in the box wireless or do you need a hard line to the router?
I watch everything now on my laptop.
Works for me.
has both the box can be used wireless or you can cable connect it to a router. I use wireless since the box is in a different room.
The BIG cable companies have already made the transition from “cable TV” to broadband providers. I grew up working in the cable industry. The margin and maintenance of a broadband network can be high enough to overcome the crap associated with programming and dealing with programmers.
They should put the pipe in the house and connect it to your TV. The rest is up to you.
Half of your support staff could be cut and the average bill would not change all that much.
AND, look for Comcast or another broadband company to ultimately buy Netflix.
On Demand access to programming has been the dream of cable providers for years.
Thank you. Mine too. Why I needed to know if wireless.
Streaming bookmark. Thanks!
Big cable companies are building their own streaming bundles.
