A Denver sportswriter is out of his job after triggering an onslaught of criticism for tweeting that a Japanese driver winning Sunday's Indianapolis 500 made him "uncomfortable."
Terry Frei, a sports reporter for the Denver Post, sent the questionable tweet shortly after Japanese race car driver Takuma Sato hailed victory in the illustrious Indy 500.
"Nothing specifically personal, but I am very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend," he wrote.

The Japs never apologized, why should we?
I know what the guy was thinking but he can’t do that in these times.

If someone had said that a White winner made him uncomfortable, he would be invited to speak at the democrat convention.

Two-time Formula 1 champ Fernando Alonso got a very warm reception form the crowd, leading for many laps before dropping out with engine failure. That is far more representative of the crowd’s attitude than that of this one journalist, who - will of course - get all the attention, which will be used to reinforce the notion that we are a nation of bigots.

This "Jap" had nothing to do with WWII. By all accounts, he is a nice guy.

Why was he not uncomfortable with 13 of the last 15 Indy 500’s being won by cars with Honda or Toyota engines?

I never owned a slave. I think reparations are bull####. So why should this 40-year-old be held accountable for the actions of WWII-era Japan?

The debt they owed us for Pearl Harbor was paid in full by Hiroshima, Nagasaki and their unconditional surrender.
FYI, the Japanese did apologize and have repeatedly apologized since their surrender. The Emperor even attempted to apologize to MacArthur in person but MacArthur refused to accept the apology or even meet with the Emperor.

Oh, I have no problem with the guy. I’m glad he won. The sports writer seemed to have mix up his patriotism with sports, which is a big no-no.

Because this is a huge racial contretemps I understand the hullabaloo but in fact there are scandals like this every year in Japan in reverse.
