Nick Saban might be the most beloved man in the entire State of Alabama. However, he has a long way to go before getting in the good graces of Terry Bradshaw. Saban, who will earn over $11 million in salary alone this upcoming year, became the subject of debate when Terry Bradshaw appeared on the Paul Finebaum Radio Show. During the show, Bradshaw debated Phyllis, the longtime and very loud Alabama fan who frequently calls in to Finebaum.
Bradshaw called Sabans contract shameful, and made an analogy between Sabans contract and the athletic budget of his alma mater, Louisiana Tech:
Bradshaw: I understand Saban, thats your coach. Whats he making, $12 million now? That is the entire athletic budget at Louisiana Tech. The entire budget. Thats shameful! Shameful!
Phyllis: Shame? You think the man hasnt earned it? Do you think the man hasnt earned every single dollar he has earned at the University of Alabama?
Bradshaw didnt just stop at attacking Sabans contract, he also attacked him personally. Bradshaw said, If he has the personality of Steve Spurrier, then I would like him. Spurrier, now youre talking about a great coach. Thats a great coach, Steve Spurrier, not Saban. Saban hates people. The man doesnt even like people. 12 million. Think about it. I could use a little bit of that money to kind of help pay off my trailer house.
Saban hates people? Perhaps Bradshaw has access to information the rest of us dont. But, short of that, Sabans disdain for talking to the media doesnt necessarily mean he hates people. Its possible to question how much money someone makes without personal attacks, and Bradshaw should have done that here.

Spending someone else’s money ... Liberals have always tended to regard the laws of economics as optional. I understand he despises Rush too.
“Think about it. I could use a little bit of that money to kind of help pay off my trailer house. “
My trailer house? Is that your hunting blind? Just think of how arrogant this pissant is in making that kind of stupid statement of hate and jealousy from a person who makes a cool 1 Mil a year for doing a show one day a week during an 18 game season and all he has to show for himself is a trailer house that he is still making payments on? Arrogant piece of $#!t.

Meanwhile, if Bradshaw was playing today at at the level he did back in the 70’s he’d be “earning” around $20 million per year. So numbers are all relative. Not a fan of either Saban or ‘Bama, but if winning championships means that much to the university and they have the money (sorry Louisiana Tech isn’t in that position, Terry) it’s their business.
Sounds like Phil Robertson’s backup is having a snit.
Phyllis won my heart when she got on air and called Colin Cowherd Colin Cowterd.
Who am I kidding. I liked her way before that.
The best 15 minutes I ever had listening to Gine sum was when he had Pat Dye on and he just let him ramble about Bear Bryant for about 15 minutes.
Nick Saban might be the most beloved man in the entire State of Alabama.
NOT the entire state.
“Gine-sum” = Finebaum.
He does not even know Saban. Saban is an incredibly generous man with his time and money and has personally helped steer many wayward boys in the right direction. He’s very private about what he has done. And it is true that he does not suffer fools well, especially lazy reporters who ask banal questions. But Bradshaw is out of line with his criticism. He is beloved in Alabama, except by the Auburn fans, which is no small minority. But they generally respect his talent as a coach.
It’s that unfair vicious cycle. The better your recruits, the more you win. The more you win, the better recruits you are able to entice to play for you. So more winning.
Everything he says about Saban may be true, but he is STILL worth every penny they pay him. Urban Meyer too.

LOL! Short-sighted media clowns!

College football: The spectacle of big black unpaid men battering their bodies while white men get rich. Some things never change in the South. The college football game is the modern plantation.
The entire manner in which professionalized college sports is conducted is shameful.
I mean, who cares if the university’s degree actually means the holder learned something for his massive pile of debt - but, by golly, the football team, now THAT is serious business.
Absolutely no employee of any public college or university should be paid more than the president of the university. A college coach’s success is almost totally dependent on how good he/she is at kissing eighteen year old high school athletes asses—period. The X and O’s are easy.
If universities were restricted to head coach salary caps equal to or less than the president’s salary Saban and his ilk would still take numbers for the jobs because they couldn’ earn as much anywhere else. Coaching football isn’t that difficult. Operating on the very fringes of NCAA regs without getting caught when you cross the line—now that is the difficult part.
Contrary to what the NCAA says college sports is not about education. How many reports have you seen revealing the fate of the kids that didn’t turn pro and left the college with no degree or a degree in unemployment? I don’t recall any. There are uncounted thousands of them that received little or no additional earning power for their time spent on the university athletic rosters. But the Sabans are paid annually more than the professors can earn in an entire career yet it is all about education.$
“. ..and all he has to show for himself is a trailer house that he is still making payments on?”
Do you honestly believe Bradshaw is being serious about the trailer house?
Yep. Saban brings in a lot of money to the university.
Bradshaw is right... College coaches shouldn’t be making and enormous amount of money. There isn’t a coach in the NFL (Belichick included) who makes $11 million a year. The NCAA has been derelict in their duty to govern college sports. All college coaches should be paid a standard base salary... Not a whopping $11 million, that would even the playing field and eliminate the competitive bidding for has-been NFL coaches.
“Yep, Saban brings a lot of money to Alabama.”
Name me one Bama coach that hasn’ since the Bear prowled the Tide sideline. Saban isn’t unique in this respect. The money rolls in at every Power Five school. That is what makes the disparity between them and everyone else so obscene.
