Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Why the crass humor?)
Common Sense Media ^ | 1/2017 | Common Sense Media

Parents need to know that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the adventures of Marvel's motley group of space outlaws first introduced in the smash hit Guardians of the Galaxy. Expect lots of interest from kids of all ages, but it's most appropriate for tweens and up. There's frequent fighting with weapons (swords, guns, and more), space chases/battles, executions that involve people being "spaced" (forced out of airlocks to die in the freezing cold of deep space), and more. Spoiler alert: A popular character dies. Language, while not frequent, can also be strong, with everything from "douche" and "d--k" to "s--t," "a--hole." There's a bit of drinking, characters have romantic tension, and a couple of scenes show scantily clad females; there are also references to explaining conception. But all in all, it's still a bit less edgy than many other superhero movies. Plus, unlike the Avengers, the Guardians always fight together and exemplify the spirit of teamwork, friendship, and unconditional chosen-family bonds.

My wife and I thought the original movie was entertaining and funny so we went to this sequel yeaterday. I do not understand why the writers need to put in the off color words, the potty humor and the references to the function and size of male genetilia.

So now the question: Have you ever gone to a movie and come out saying, "Gee, that movie would have been much better if they had added a bit more potty humor, sexual inuendo and insulting references to sex."?

I didn't like GOTG2 at all way too boring and slow. Not as many funny jokes as the first time.

King Arthur was better!

Because crass humor makes kids feel older than they are.

Well all I know is my collection of Looney tunes has a lot of the same type of innuendo and is funny at multiple age levels of humor. Which I feel these two movies have approached. There are definitely references that I got that my 18 and 20 year olds didn’t.

Yes ... they could be less blunt using certain swear words but overall there is nothing in it that I hadn’t heard by the age of 6 in kindergarten from other kids in my class or upper classmen way back in the early 70s and that was in a podunk town of less than 1000 in the midwest.

It really wasn’t ever supposed to be a kids move, but the marketing got too out of control, because of the success, and some of the merch related to it were aimed a bit too young IMO.

No, it’s not. And I enjoyed it. Baby Groot is adorable.

no but they do this to appeal to 18-30 yr olds.
My husbands says that The Godfather would have been a box office flop today...not enough T&A, certainly not enough violence. and you had to follow a story, which no body can do anymore.
TV is the same. A perfectly good show has 2 much cussing( I cuss all the time, so you know its alot of F bombs) naked butts, and implied sexual shenanigans just so the dummies will watch it.

I personally think it’s because the guys who work in that industry are perverts and get a thrill out of writing things like that.

Wife and I went to see it. IMO, best ND I movie they’ve made yet. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

GotG2 was good. First half was better than the second. In the last act, it’s heavy on personal revelations, rivalries, and “Feeeeelings! (Woah, woah, woah...)” People were a little too rubbery, too. They all must be made of the same indestructible and flexible rubber that Stretch Armstrong was.

They need to get back to a clever heist, hininx, repartee, and swashbuckling. In space.
